Feeling a bit bored today while I'm on holiday and thought I'd help out by showing you what I have. I picked up a 701 a little while back, and actually managed to snag an 801 as well, which is almost identical in size to the 701. The three pics here are the ME (sorry don't have an MX), the 801 and the Spotmatic 500. So, it is a bit taller than the ME but almost the same height and thickness of the Spotmatic. And, yes they are very well-built cameras.

Another week, another CBA/LBA attack. This was part of a fifty-dollar haul that included a tripod, bag, light meter, flash and some filters. Too bad the the ME's aperture dial is missing the little white button and won't turn, but other than that, it's in almost-mint condition, as are the lenses. As for the Nikon, it looks all plasticky and cheap sitting next to the solid-metal Pentax. :-)

Beautiful pictures of a very beautiful camera. Never knew that there were cameras that focused that way.

:) That was a tongue-in-cheek comment I made - yes, the folks here are a lot more civil than in some of the other forums I've been in. For instance, I use a Mac myself, but am not a big fan of Apple (the company) and you should see some of the rabid fanboys coming out of the closet with their iPitchForks if anyone says anything even slightly negative about any iProducts!

Yeah I've been reading a lot about the mercury batteries. Also found out the ST801 is the one that takes newer batteries. Guess what I have to look for next (hint: it's not the battery) Thanks for the links - I looked at it and it doesn't look like something I'd wanna do myself! I guess my next best bet is to use the zinc-air cells, that was mentioned in this excellently-written article .
Actually, one thing I noticed is that the foam pieces in the back (and where the mirror slaps in front) has broken down. Found some links online on how to fix it, but not sure if it's hard to do myself.
As for the camera itself, the more I look at it, the more I'm loving it. My first brush with Fuji cameras was about 10 years ago, after I stopped using an SLR but was too poor to buy a real DSLR, and I ended up getting one of their bridge cameras. From the ST701, I can see the pedigree it came from, much like in the Pentax world.

5 days! I lasted 5 days....
Stopped by a yard sale today and picked up this beauty for 30 bucks. I might be chased out of these forums with pitchforks saying this, but holding this in my hand is seriously making me want to go out and shoot some film.

I hear ya. Well, the "looking over the gear and being happy with what you've got" works. For me personally, part of the initial impetus to get additional gear is to have more coverage in the focal lengths I was missing. When the FF Pentax was announced, I suspect more people will go after the older lenses as well, so I decided to focus more on the best-bang-for-the-buck ones.
Being in Canada, something else that has worked beautifully these past few months has been the tanking of our dollar. With a 20% hit for every dollar, I'm blissfully ignoring all online sales from the USA!
And the last thing I've done is to limit my browsing to anything under $50. But dangit, I still managed to pick up three Pentax SLRs and four lenses for under $120 all in, so I must be doing right. :p

Yeah.. that's why I know cold turkey won't work. I'll have to be put into a forced coma since everything I look at these days sets off a thought process in my mind : what lens would work best in that scenario, what angle should I use, what's the proper aperture setting, etc.
Best thing to do would be just enjoy the highs. Fortunately, I still prefer having money in my pockets versus having that next lens or camera that pops up!

HeavyCorPhotography, your MCES sounds very much like my CBA (that spread from what I initially thought was a harmless case of minor LBA). I've shot SLRs and digital bridge cameras for years and never had any problems. Then in 2012, I bought my first Pentax - the K5. Things were calm for the first six months, then an unfortunate accident with my kit lens prompted me to get my first walkabout DA 18-135. Things went downhill very quickly after that!
From posts similar to yours, I can only conclude that Pentax gear is like narcotics - once you've got your first hit, you need to keep coming back for more :D. My latest hit came last weekend - a Spotmatic SP500, SuperTakumar 55mm F/2, Soligor 80-200mm F/3.5, Ilfolux PF1 Flash Gun and a bunch of other knick-knacks, all in Mint-condition, with original cases and manuals, for $50.
I think I may have to turn off my Wi-Fi router soon before the urge to look for my next hit surfaces...
