Hey, not really sure what type of thing your after but I did notice this on trademe, i'm not really sure about prices but it seems cheap to me (for NZ prices at least lol). Anyway, the only other place that I hear a lot of people saying they've used with good results is B&H (including quite a few Australians it seems) although, that's mainly on this forum so it would be mainly Pentax gear, for all I know their Canon prices could be ridiculous. Hope that this could have possibly helped.

Very cool, that sure does look like a tremendous effort you went through to get that Centon flash to work, I hope it was a bargain. :)

That's very interesting, thanks for pointing that out. It's strange however, on the Cactus V5 product information page it lists that those Sigma flashes for Canon don't work but it lists the Nikon version to be compatible - perhaps they just left this information of the Cactus V4 page...

It doesn't really matter though, I think i'm definitely going to go for the YN-560 II, seems like a great flash in a lot of respects for a low price and then a little bit later i'll go for some Cactus V4's/V5's.

Thanks for the help Class-A, much appreciated.

Also, just out of interested, which flash(es) did you start off with? (for your Pentax digital camera)

Thanks Class-A, this is very good information!

I was just having a look around TM and found this & this and I just thought (since you said they're all usually compatible no matter of branding) to see if you thought either of these were worth looking at (I know they're both for Nikon, I just looked at the prices & reviews on here and thought they seemed decent (although, one reviewer said the Sigma EF 500 DG Super had a lousy manual mode which might make it useless since I assume this is the only mode I could use it on?))

I'll definitely look at those Cactus reviews, also I was just wondering what the shipping options from Gadget Infinity are like (to NZ)?

P.S. It would also be a bonus if the flash would work well on a Canon (as my girlfriend uses a Canon) although it doesn't matter if it's not. :)

Thanks again Class-A!

Thanks Class-A!

Yeah, I asked a question about flashes but found some extra time to research in which I decided to remove the post saving someone the hassle of answering (I thought it would just be repeating information I had already found) however, I'm really glad you answered since I didn't know a lot of the stuff you posted, thanks.

Also, the reason I was posting is I am looking at acquiring a cheapish flash (and wireless trigger possibly) because I was thinking of messing about/seeing if I enjoy flash photography (I want to be one of these mysterious, so called strobists!)

"The big advantage about doing it manually is that the flashes you can use are significantly cheaper than the system-specific flashes." This is exactly how I feel at the moment except I am not sure If I would be making the wrong move going manual right from the get go - although, I would most likely not use it for anything that required me to set it correctly in a short period of time so maybe it would be fine. If you could could you please make me a suggestion for starting with this? Currently I am studying the Yongnuo YN-560 II which seemed to be a good cheap entry level that doesn't fall behind much in quality/features ($70 free shipping from China on fleabay) and I wasn't really sure about triggers... Was it Cactus V4's you suggest? Do these work with most flashes well?

Also, I was just wondering, if a trigger wasn't purchased, is there a way to trigger the flashes with on camera flash or something (I thought I had seen this mentioned?)

Thanks again, Class-A!

Is it just me or does that seem to be a slightly disappointing announcement?
Apart from the apparent better AF (sorry I didn't look enough to get good details) it didn't seem to provide anything better than my K-5 for the same(or slightly cheaper) price?
Hmmm... Atleast we know that Pentax is still alive over there...

If it's under 60 NZD in GST(they include freight and sometimes insurance which was what put me $2 over) they will wave the entire fee but if it's over they will charge GST + other fees which total at $40 (biosecurity screening and some other import fee) and then to be extra sad they add GST on these other fees. Pretty great, I'm definitely going to watch how much my shipping is and add it in next time...

It's definitely worth buying locally (or local grey import), I just brought a 290 USD (358NZD) lens off Ebay and got pinged $100 from customs, that shit is ridiculous. This was all because I decided to get the fast shipping which put me 2 NZD over the threshold where they stop waving the fees.
I never even got fast shipping because I only just got the letter and it has been held there the whole time I have been waiting....

That FA 50 2.8 macro is very tempting.. If I didn't purchase a Sigma 18-50 2.8 EX DC macro (not true macro like that 50..) literally a week or less ago I would jump all over that...

How could you do that to us...
Just jokes. :)

I bet it's just nice to have a wife that has interest in photography... Others (un-photography inclined people), I find, struggle to deal with the price of equipment (Mainly nice glass... Haha)

I wish the best for the two of you in the future. :)

Very cool, I'll definitely give it a shot, or if not, just watch this lovely spectacle, one of the articles said it isn't going to hit again for another 105 years... That's a long time to wait if you miss this one :D

Thanks Pete,

How was the shipping? The real reason I wanted to get something local or even slightly close internationally is because I didn't want it to take 2 weeks to a month which does happen sometimes (even often) with China post (experienced it).

Regards,
Damon.

Just thought I'd ask here before looking elsewhere but would anyone happen to have a spare/unused 3rd party battery grip for the k7/k5 (D-BG4) that they would like to sell?

Thanks folks,
Damon.

Some reasonable priced goodies been popping up on trademe recently, thanks for the notification Pete.
Also just a question, anyone know what the best trademe/fleabay option would be for a cheap remote set-up for my K5?

Anyone around Dunedin today? I was walking about town and saw someone (with what I thought) was a K-7/K-5 with something like a 55-300 on, spotted crossing the road from the cook bar? Anyone from here?

A few months ago I got mine from Expert Info Tech for $1440...

By the way if anyone knows a place which sells the DA 40 for a reasonable price (locally or overseas with reasonable shipping) I would be keen to know.

Also..

Hi/welcome Ross and John. :)

Is that the one going for $550 bn? Seems to be reasonable, I would definitely go for it if I was looking for something in that range.

I love it for sure, I really want to match it with a true star of a lens though, currently looking for a reasonably priced FA 43 ltd. So hope I can find one. :)

Welcome. :)

I didn't find Expert Infotech to bad at all when I dealt with them (buying my K5) It was fast and cheap ($1465 at the time, I think it's a bit expensive now though)
I really do want a fisheye, just wondering, does the 10-17 have the fisheye effect at 10mm?

Hey guys, just thought I'd introduce myself here, fellow kiwi shooting with a K-5. It's really nice to know there is a active group of kiwi's on here! About the law aspect you are all discussing I do not know the laws in New Zealand currently around this subject but I am currently studying law at Otago so I could use resources available to me to find this information out and if I have time I most certainly will.
