I am all for weirdly branded lenses - and those pre-set ones are usually have multitude of aperture blades - so another reason to keep it would be this beautiful bokeh that you get from it even when stopped down !

Excellent stuff - I really need to get one of those now :P
Superb rendering - sharp where it should be, smooth and blurry where its pleasing, nice colours - I say you got much more than you've paid for :P

Great shots - particularly love the second - the light captured there is just beautiful !
Congratulation and good luck in your discoveries - I believe that your K10D may still hold some surprises for you :D

Sure you will - that day isn't far away in fact - as long as you go out and shoot - you improve! I remember my pitiful macros from last year - now I feel I am approaching somewhere but nowhere close to what some present :D So keep shooting and share some of your shots here on forum :D ,,, '>' manntax

Great shots everyone - I enjoy a lot looking at those ! here are few shots from today's playing with the camera and home made close up lens ( a front group from scrapped Sigma zoom ) - with 50mm 1:2.8 macro it goes to over 1:1 magnification ! Very happy with this setup! ,,, '>' manntax
#1 - crazy K10D CCD color frenzy :P - note saturation wasn't increased in this shot - it is like it was in RAW file , developed with default settings in LR 5
#2 - I have no idea what this thing is :P - all I know it was maybe 3-4mm long with long antennas :P - saturation again intact from the original RAW file
#3 - I waited for this fly to come to my spot .. she finally did and then I snapped :P - there wasn't much colours anyway in this photo so I liked it better in BW |

Some captivating scenes you got there :D Have you focused manually or with autofocus / AF confirmation - because in latter case it might mean that with this lens your K10D is back focusing really badly. If you look closely you will see that the most sharpness is far back on that fence. ,,, ' >' manntax

Although this was already posted in K-01 with lenses mounted - and in the Zeiss Flektogon 35mm lens club - I thought it should appear also here - since the shot was done with my trusted K10D :) ,,, ' >' manntax

Huh a K10D with Katz eye installed ( or any other decent split screen screen ) is a pleasure to use indeed ! Looks like your K10D was used by some manual glass lover :P - good luck with the sensor - that would be my first guess if it comes to those black spots. They seem to be quite large so fairly easy to blow off. ,,, ' >' manntax

These are really fine examples Fred! Congratulation on your purchase - looks like your K10D is delivering ! Also the focusing seems to be spot on - have you changed or adjusted it in any way ot was it that accurate out of the box? My both K10D had serious focusing issues - and my first one which was new I continued using with bad backfocus for some years before I discovered that it was possible to fix that. From things worth mentioning is the dust on your sensor. No problem below f5.6 but after than it starts to show - particularly in your duck picture there is some dust visible - it might be worth the effort to use some rocket blower to blow the dust off just in case it happens in a place not easy to correct with cloning. Congratulation on your purchase - that body still can deliver! Take it slowly and as tromboads says have a fun with it :D From your shots I like the last one - nice K10D colors there - both bird shots seems a bit out of focus or shaken - but you are on your way for sure ! It just takes some practice to shoot with long glass. ,,, ' >' manntax

Of course manual focus is the most reliable one with older Pentax bodies - that's the sad truth . I am excited about the direction of AF in current bodies - but it is a manual focus that I trust the most for now. AF is only for situations where I cannot take my time and stopped down lens - wide open fast glass I can focus more reliably myself than trust the outdated electronics and hope for the good.
And about 'profiting' - well firstly I already said what's quoted below - besides - I paid my share of lost images having used the K10D without adjusted focusing for nearly 4+ years ! Since the AF was so bad I used manual Helios and some other lenses that I had from my film past. I do feel sorry for all the folks who got let down by Pentax but on the other hand I know that I could have done some research myself. Not to mention the guy I bought it from simple hated it already and no amount of persuasion would change his mind as he already jumped ship to Oly. :)

It certainly was in my case - there were ( are? ) deals to be had on this and K20D as well - both cameras usually suffered from severe front-or-back focusing issues and in some cases have disappointed their original users who are often willing to get rid of them for peanuts !
Good point about K200 !! It is indeed a terrific camera with (reportedly ) the same sensor as K10D was - so for someone on the look for a CCD sensor camera this is definitely another good option!

Thanks ! yeah I agree I was super lucky with this buy! Hell, even at 12k clicks it would be a steal at £60 with two new batteries, charger, cables, box and all bits and pieces XD

Yeah !! And iot looks like one too ! It had nevefr been updated to the firmware was 1.0 on it - and I felt so sorry for the guy who sold it because the camera had so severe front focus that from all the shots he left on 1GB card included there was not a single one in sharp focus. -- seriously bad case ! I think this terrible thing with front / back focusing of these cameras in some cases has had particularly bad influence on the brand perception - sadly Pentax hasn't learnt that lesson until K3 came ( or at least this is what K3 fellows are saying ) as we all know how people were struggling with back / front focusing on most of the digital bodies.
FUNNY thing is that my son's istD* DL 2 is having perfect focusing with the kit lens! - I wasn't so lucky with my original body that had slight backfocus which I managed to correct only last year !!
On the other hand my Z1p from 1990 ! is perfectly focusing with anything I put on it - even fairly modern lenses like 28-75mm f2.8 are perfectly accurate .. so something didn't click at Pentax for many years after those superb AF film bodies like Z1p or MZ-S.
I am happy to got such a great bargain on this second body ( don't even ask for the price :P ) -- but on the other hand It makes one fully aware of all the shortcomings that these cameras had out of the box.

The sharpness is so amazing - I observe the same thing with my K10D - in some cases it can nearly match the detail and surpass the sharpness I get from the same lens on K-01 - and that is 16MP sensor vs 10 MP !
Well done everyone - the K10D is so outstanding that I got myself a second body recently - with only 800 clicks on it :D:D
...I need to upload some of my photos again too :)

Sure go ahead - I am sure once you get it done it will be a massive relief to your eyes and an improvement in manual focusing !!
it will get some used to before you will be able to nail the focus with any lens, but its well worth it ! I learned to use mine so I know that my critical point of sharpness shown on the split screen is usually at the same time the very closest sharp area and following sharpness will be further from that point. I say usually because some lenses are different - but once you get used to this - focusing is a breeze !! Well - almost - because the funny thing is that with some lenses focusing is simple easier and with others is simple harder ( or inaccurate ) - not sure why but I accept the facts and move one :)
That's quite strange - I would expect a 100$ focusing screen to be *perfect* - so that is really discouraging - unless it was simple not fitted properly ? --manntax

Thank you both for the kind words I am glad you liked these shots :)
And the 35-70 SMC-M zoom indeed has stunned me with the quality of images when received it. I couldn't believe my eyes to be honest - that is my sharpest and best manual zoom ever in this range and I had them quite a few :D I really didn't pixel peep but at first glance my copy is at least on par with sharpness of my Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 between 35 and 50mm and then Pentax is simple better and sharper all the way to 70mm - quite extraordinary in my books. And this lens is perfect on my K10D.. I managed to get the lens hood that is ideally covering the lens but even without it the lens offers really amazing contrast and clarity--manntax
