This is common to underplay features that your favourite brand does not have. IBIS for example was always downplayed by the Canonikon crowd until they got it.
AF-C has always been a sore point for Pentax until the K-3 Mk.III which comes more than 10 years too late. Of course, now that I don't as much need AF-C, Pentax fixed it.
But what I like about Pentax is that they always strive for the best picture quality. They definitely are not into sports too much, but their bodies and glass very often strike a good balance between price and quality. And they are a joy to use which play an important part in photography I think.

I went to a big camera store in a city close to Montreal and I was looking at cameras displayed there. There was a good portion reserved to Pentax. What I found funny was that they don't carry Nikon at all. There was every brand you could imagine even Fuji x-pro. But no Nikon.

No, it's just horses for courses. I wouldn't lung a 7D+70-200 just to be able to shoot sports once in a while. There's nothing like a K-5+DA15 in Canonland. And with cameras as good as the K-5, FF can wait.

Which goes to show how much marketing is powerful. Pentax as a brand has to be revitalized that's why I think products like the 645D even if they don't make money directly are the best marketing tools.
The one thing I like about my Pentax is that I don't have to tape the brand name on my camera which I would certainly do if I was using a Canon or a Nikon. For at least two reasons: thieves and gearheads

What I find even more rare than a Pentax sight is people changing lenses. I'm changing all the time but I've yet to see someone doing it. 80% of the DSLR I see are a Canon/Nikon with the kit lens. Even the few Pentax I saw are K-x/K100D type of camera with kit lens. I don't recall ever seeing K-5 or K-7. OTOH I'm not always checking what other people shoot with.

The 1st one I like. The second one, unfortunately now many brands jumped on the "cheap" WR bandwagon (D7000 and now the A77), so it's not so much a differentiator especially now that Pentax has dropped entry-level WR like the K200D.

You know that could be a good ad for Pentax: imagine a babe smiling with her Pentax (and a nice bikini) circled by grumpy old men with black/yellow strap cameras (Nikon) on the left and the blue/white/red straps on the right (Canon). I guess it's too macho but... one can dream that Pentax one day would do better on marketing and make being alone in a herd an advantage. Speaking of marketing I kind of liked the old Asahi Pentax ads You Tube |

Doesn't it just means that Pentax shooters are too advanced to need a course for "beginners / intermediate"? :)
