Years have gone by since I successfully hacked my now-long-departed DA*16-50 to screw drive.

I now have a DA*50-135 in need of the same treatment.

I've borrowed a mate's K10D, firmware 1.31, successfully got it into DEBUG mode and copied the KB421.EEP file to an SD card.

So here's the problem: the .EEP file does not have one single "C0" in the entire file, let alone column 0003!

Have I missed something important?

For the record, here is the file:

I have moved your post.
There is a wealth of information in this thread. I would be surprised if the answer, or someone who can answer it, does not reside here :)

You can certainly convert your DA*16-50, but the DA*55 is either SDM or it's dead.

You need an earlier camera body. I used a K10D borrowed from a friend.
I don't think anyone has sorted out how to do it with a K-5 *yet*.

Huh? Lightroom has no problem with recognising my DA*16-50, which was converted to screw drive some time ago and has had thousands of shots put through it....

Yes. Switch it to manual focus ;)
Seriously, the DA*55 has no screw drive mechanism, so if the SDM fails you're buggered.

I'm no computer boffin, but I was able to negotiate it.
Just give it a go, but make sure you make back-up copies of the EEPROM file before you start modifying it.

Is it working with the silent SDM or the noisy screw drive? Unless it is the latter your work is not yet done....

I used my rejuvenated DA*16-50 in anger for the first time last night. Commercial shoot for my music website, covering the opening gig of a national tour from Aussie progressive metal gods Karnivool.
It was a dark, smoky venue with strobes at the back of the stage and moving subjects. The AF worked very well: not 100% perfect, but the keeper rate was at least as good as I expect, and when it locked on it was spot on.

Remember English is probably not the first language of the original poster. I'll try to make it a bit clearer.

The code in the EEPROM file is divided into lines and columns, which are numbered using the hexadecimal system, hence the use of letters as well.

The third, seventh, eleventh, fifteenth, etc lines (numbered 0020, 0060, 00A0, 00E0, etc) all contain the code "C0" in the fourth column (numbered 03 because the first is numbered 00). Each time "C0" appears in those positions, edit it to "80"

Save the edited file then transfer it to the camera and load it to the lens using the camera's menu system as described.

No luck. I have tried the above, repeatedly and with numerous re-edits of the MODSET.txt file, and I can conform the findings of others in the thread linked in post #154 above; it does not work with version 1.31 of the K10D firmware. When I power on, with the SD card door open and the MODSET.txt file in the root of the SD card, the camera LCD flickers briefly and that's it.

The only thing I can think of is that I am attempting this on a Mac using a basic third party text editor called Notepad (by Kupon.BG). Does anyone think it would be worth trying again on a Windows computer?

Are there any other bright ideas out there?

I managed to source a K10D from a mate, with FW 1.20. Following the instructions on page 1 of this thread I could not enter the debug menu.
I looked for a link to FW 1.30, but only found 1.31, which was the last version I think. Installed it and still could not enter debug with either the modset file or djseeram's shortcut above.
Is there a way I can get FW 1.30 and install it once 1.31 is already on the camera, or am I basically stuffed?
