We had all sorts of cameras over for Good Friday. My K-1 was somewhere in the middle.... Format dissonance |

You might have a bad copy.
These are all at f/2.8. Pretty sharp even well away from the centre. Click on the images to pixel peep in Flickr.
The portrait of my daughters I posted earlier (post #422) was also wide open.

A Christmas day shot of my daughters. They both live in Melbourne now, so it was lovely to have them both home together.
Wide open and slightly back focussed, but overall the effect is pleasing ;) |

I finally got the opportunity to handle one of these yesterday. The size and weight difference from the DA*16-50 was less than I expected, and the build quality and handling (from the damping of the zoom and focus rings to the lack of slop from the barrel as is extends) were appreciably better. The big filter size doesn't bother me much on further reflection, as I would use this predominantly for events, while reserving my primes for the sort of slower paced stuff where I might use filters.
After forking out for a DFA*70-200 recently, even the price is not quite so eyebrow raising ;)
All that remains is to see how well it performs on the K-1.

Not much flare from the DA*16-50 here: Karnivool 3
Perhaps not enough light to generate flare.... Guitar Wolf 1
But don't get me wrong; I can't wait to get a DFA24-70 onto its native format :D ---------- Post added 22-02-16 at 11:19 PM ----------
Oops. Misread the EXIF....

Nice. Possibly better than the DA*16-50 in the same circumstances (but not by much). Taken on the K-5IIs? Where was your K-1 dude?

Finally, the comparison shots I needed! Although the girth of the barrel is greater, the outer diameter of the hood looks about the same as that of the DA*16-50, so it should fit in my bags without needing to reconfigure them.
I want to see more images to convince me it's sharp enough - especially event portraits with bounced flash which is how I use my 16-50 quite a lot, but I'm seriously tempted....

Tempted. Just can't get over the 82mm filter thread.
