My DFA15-30 arrived today, less than 24 hours after placing my order!
Physically it is big, but not huge: externally, the length and widest diameter are almost identical to the DA*16-50 with the hood on, but there is a whole lot more lens filling that potential volume. Not surprisingly, it is heavier, but not by as much as I expected as there is lot of (high quality) plastic used. It is internal focus (although it is not labelled as such) and the focus ring is nicely damped, but it turns in the wrong direction for a Pentax lens. The zoom ring is quite smooth (a slight increase in resistance nearing 15mm) and turns in the "right" direction. When zooming in from 15mm the front barrel retracts deeper into the hood - a clever design which must improve hood performance at the long end.
I have only taken a couple of quick shots in poor light, so it is too early to say much about image quality. Much more testing to come.

Why didn't I ask you first? I could have saved myself a pile ;)

I have just purchased a DFA15-30, and should receive it by Friday (27th May) at the latest.
I plan to spend most of June comparing it to my DA10-17, DA15, FA20, DA21, FA*24, F28 and FA31, so I hope I will be able to provide a well-informed opinion to this thread in due course....

The FA20/2.8 isn't too shabby in the corners at f/4
I don't mind the bokeh either. |

Well I *was* talking about the F28, not the FA28 as you seem to have assumed ;)
I'm too lazy to record the aperture I shoot at, so I didn't check anything older than the A series....

Then I have no doubt you could put it to excellent use :)

I suspect it will behave like a slow 35mm lens, with excellent sharpness in the corners of the small format 135 frame.

That is because it is known not to cover the full frame.

I now also have a FA20/2.8 on the way, so it will be very interesting to see how it stacks up against my FA20-35/4 on the K-1, and on APS-C against the the DA21/3.2
My testing on film has convinced me the DA10-17 covers full frame from about 15mm, so I reckon my wide needs should be covered for now, until I can no longer resist the siren call of the DFA15-30/2.8

I appreciate the gesture, but I might hang onto it until I can give it a workout on the K-1 ;)

I must have missed the memo about the FA*24 being a terrible lens.
Wide open....

I got sick of waiting for a reasonably priced FA20, but found a very cheap FA20-35 which arrived on 1st March. At least I consider AUD350 including postage a good price ;)
Five days into "Singling" it and it certainly seems pretty good on APS-C at least. The corners are a bit soft at f/4, but stopped down it's very good throughout the zoom range. I have put my "Wide Acquisition Program" on hold until I can try this out on the K-1 (along with my FA*24, F28, FA31 and the "long" end of my DA10-17).

Pictures, or it didn't happen.
This is at 10mm. In the corners there is no hood at all - it's still miles from a full frame image circle.
From 15mm it is fine.

Mind you, there's a pretty strong case to be made for getting the DFA15-30 and probably selling my DA15, DA21, FA*24, F28 and DA*16-50. It will depend on how the new lens performs with respect to starbursts and flare resistance, but it will be a great focal range on both full frame and APS-C.

I just bought a F28/2.8, which is the highest rating 28mm lens in the PF review database. It didn't cost too much and it's tiny, light, fast focussing and has a five bladed aperture which makes it unique in my lens collection. It will definitely need a hood though.
Still on the lookout for a FA20/2.8....
