shooting box match ( first time though ) - opinions on technique

There's some great advice here already.

Shoot RAW - learn to like it, and the processing afterwards
ISO 3200 is fine if needed
Shutter speed at least 1/250
Open the lens up and follow focus with back button AF or manual if your skills are up to it (mine aren't all the time ;) )
I agree with Brooke about timing rather than spray and pray.
Punches (and the reaction to them) are much more interesting than clinches.
