Susan, thank you! The 35mm is my most used lens.
The 45-85 is an awesome lens and very sharp up to f/14, then it starts to fall off around f/16 due to diffraction. The 80-160 is the other zoom I own, it's also very good, but not quite as sharp as the 45-85, but that may just be my copy of it. They aren't terribly heavy, with the 45-85 pretty reasonable and 80-160 a bit heavier. Both lenses are sharpest at their widest focal length and fall of slightly towards the high focal lengths, more so my copy of the 80-160 than the 45-85.
The new 28-45 is a BEAST, which is one of the reasons I've not jumped at getting it. I'd have preferred the 28-45 sacrifice IS for savings in size and weight, but I'm sure the wedding and event photographers think it's worth it...they don't have to hike as far as I do! ---------- Post added 11-03-14 at 09:29 AM ----------
Thank you, Thomas!

Thanks for sharing the info! I haven't done that hike yet (not a huge fan of heights) and I didn't want to do all that work hauling my 645D and lenses unless I knew there would be good light!

Great sky!
Which trail in Zion did you take this from, if you don't mind my asking?

When I first started using the 645D I used the expanded DR setting, but have stopped using it...I found that it introduced halos, sort of like bad HDR does, around tree lines in the sky and such.

Interesting...well, maybe I was wrong about that, but I do remember reading somewhere that ISO200 was the best for DR, I guess you shouldn't believe everything you read on the internet!

From my experience there's virtually no difference in the noise I see between ISO 100 and ISO 200 on the 645D, but I read somewhere that the dynamic range is highest at ISO 200, and given that the shutter speed on most of these images wasn't crucial and I knew that I'd most likely be pushing the files pretty far in ACR and PS, I went with ISO 200. ISO 100 is technically in the 'explanded' ISO range of the 645D. I've never been able to notice any noise until shooting at ISO 400, and even then it's very little. It starts noticeably showing at ISO 800 and is bothersome by ISO 1600.

The ice typically photographs very flat with little contrast, especially if it doesn't have side light on it, so it needs some punch!

No HDR on these, just using GND's on some of them and pushing the RAW files. I'm really liking the ACR of PS CS6...able to push the files much more without creating strange pixels along horizons and tree branches, leaves, etc. On one of the images I pushed the Blacks and Shadows to 100% while bring the highlights and whites down to close to -100%, then punched the contrast to 100%...file still came out looking clean. Then did some more local adjustments in PS.

After capturing this last post I found that my 645 200mm A lens has pretty bad CA's, which I was unable to correct using the 'lens correction' feature. So, I zoomed in to 200% and spent about an hour with the magic wand tool creating a saturation adjustment layer mask and got them under control...what a pain!

captured this morning in Split Rock Lighthouse State Park, MN, USA. This is probably the most photographed location in the entire state of Minnesota. On a cold 1F January morning I was the only one there. Pentax 645D, Pentax-A 200mm, f/11, ISO 100, 1/15 sec |
