I can like my old M 28mm more than enough for my needs. But yeah, colours and contrasts are not quite on the same level as some modern glass. Luckily, some PP can go a long way!

Yeah, good thing there are plenty of old 28mm with great IQ that fill the gap in the current lineup!

Not sure the square hood is big enough for 28mm on FF. It is labelled as LH-SA49 and made by JJC (as a "PA-SA49 replacement"). It can be found online for $10-$20. I got mine from the German Amazon, not sure which shop. Its a clip-on hood, so it has its limitations, but I like it on the DA lenses that don't have bayonet for hood. It works okay on 28mm and 35mm on K-01, but I am not sure it is perfectly effective, but its better than no hood. I think Pentax used to make this hood for 35mm lenses back in the film days. Edit: Here is a link to the official page: http://www.jjc.cc/products_info.asp?id=682&cid=0&s_series=all
JJC also makes a DA 40mm hood knockoff, I think. They make a lot of hoods, for a much lower price than a genuine one.

Really nice flower shots! Don't often see wide angle for flower photos. Then again, 28mm on crop is not all that wide, I guess!
Meanwhile, I'm just lumbering trough the woods, taking photos of fallen trees.. M 28mm again.

Ah, interesting. Most reviews seems to say the old version is inferior, and that's the one I think I have. I don't mind, I got a nice square Pentax knock-off hood for it, too

Yep, I have the inferior version, but it works quite well for me!

I shot this photo as raw, but I didn't even PP it. Pentax M 28mm f2.8 - according to reviews, one of the worst 28mm Pentax lenses lol

I was about to write the same thing! Its really a shame Pentax isn't producing a 28mm prime right now. Very good FoV for crop sensors and Pentax already has some nice designs for this focal length! AF, modern coatings, QS, WR and it would fly off the shelves!

Thanks! I was surprised that the M 28mm f2.8 is usually ranked as one of the worst Pentax 28mm lenses. In my experience it is decently sharp even wide open, and it has nice vibrant colours and bokeh. Its my first 28mm on digital, though. I only had an old Revue on a Zenit camera, but its rather soft and I never got the m39 adapter. But wow, you seem to have a nice collection! And you post some very nice photos around here, too :)

I'm xposting this one in the bokeh thread. I was surprised the M 28mm can deliver such bokeh and detail.

The Pentax M 28mm f2.8, first version, has a user rating on these forums that I find to be unfairly low.
