An old photo I took with K-r and DA L 18-55mm, and recently re-processed in LR and NikEffects. Hope I didn't go too far with the PP, but it still shows how much can be squeezed out of the "simple" kit lens

Yeah, the mirror cycling is a bit odd on the Pentax DLSRs of the last few generations. My K-r will cycle mirror even if I am using Live view, because mirror cycle is connected to shutter movement, I think. 12 sec timer does not lock up mirror, but 2 sec does. In between bracketing or in Bust Hi, camera still cycles mirror. A lot of people wish there was an option to deal with this differently, but I think that so far, this was not possible due to hardware issues. Maybe some future camera will allow more nuance. That said, I find 2 sec lockup on tripod is good enough for me and my lenses. With something like DFA 560mm, it probably wouldn't be enough.
