Sure, but is the best trade off is purely subjective. ---------- Post added 08-12-16 at 01:43 AM ----------
That's not my impression. However, whats needed for Pentax is not necessarily the need of the individual photographer.
Pentax have 25 000 000+ FF lenses out there. An FF body was an obvious move.....

Best argument I've ever heard!
I've always wondered why it so necessary for some people to rationalize their consumerism and not simply admit that they want it. Some go to extreme length in their rationalizations (I won't give names!). :p

But we can make an opinion about what image quality we are satisfied with, how much money we will spend and how much weight we want to carry.....

If Pentax had a high quality D-FA* 24-105/4 that was not too heavy I might have considered the K-1 seriously. As it is now the K-3 + a few lightweight DA lenses is simply too attractive for trekking....

I'm not moving away from it. I'm just leaving it at home at times...

...then it isn't FF anymore. I'm not going to buy a FF over an APS camera in order to crop it and get lower image quality than the K-3...
There's no way around it; if you want the FF advantage you're going to pay in money, size and weight.....

There wasn't a 450mm (300mm X 1,5) either in that FF kit. ---------- Post added 08-01-16 at 05:27 PM ----------
The point remains that you cannot find anything even close to a set of lenses that covers 23.5-450mm, with almost no holes, at only 900g in FF land...
Two of those three lenses are high-end optics as well...

That's really beside the issue if you need a 24mm lens. I for one would not be without one....

To me the answer is no. What I need is camera equipment that it is with me; I don't really need more resolution (although I would have been nice). My current carry around gear is the K-3, 16-50/2.8, 77 Limited and the FA* 200/4 Macro. I can feel it on my back. I will shortly replace the 16-50 (due to its flare performance) with the 15 Limited and the 20-40 Limited. Next year I'll buy that new compact 55-300 and replace the K-3 with its replacement (it might have more than 24mp and certainly pixel shift). This will cover a focal length range (in FF terms) from 23.5-450mm at only little more than 900g (about the same weight as the K-1 body alone)! In the film days this would have been pure science fiction. FF is simply too large and heavy, but I might buy a K-1 down the line for shooting close to the car...
