I think it is pretty clear what the "K-3" replacement is all about from whats leaked out:
1) It is sufficiently different in tech and/or execution not to be be considered as a direct sucessor to the K-3.
2) It will be an APS flagship and from whats suggested early this year, the K-mount flagship (hence K-1 owners might want one).
3) It will come in 2019 to coincide with Pentax 100 year anniversary.
I suspect it will have a hybrid finder system.

Only happens if I can't place the sensor on the correct part of the bird. That is the real challenge.....

I think that the 16-50 need improvement. Although the lens is OK (mostly), it is not up to the standards expected for a "star" lens these days....

I'm not refering to the fact that Pentax is developing a K-3 successor, but the statement that they had no intention of doing so originally. Not very likely, considering Pentax coherent efforts the last decade. And not very likely that such info finds its way out of Pentax head quarters. Info about upcoming products is one thing, info about products not going to be made is not something you find out there.

That is not the same as a change of plan. Camera cycles for a top model is almost certainly dependent on suitable sensor supply.

DSLR and mirrorless are not necessarily bought by the same people. Most of the mirrorless manufacturers were unable to sell (D)SLR's to photographers. They are however, able to sell mirrorless through electronic gadgets stores (along with fridges and computers). There is a lesson here somewhere. It is not only important to have customers, but who the customers are is equally important.....

Why do they plan high-end aps lenses with no plan for a high end aps camera?
Seems like nonsense to me.
APS provide the tech platform for 645 and FF bodies. The K3 replacement will showcase features of the next generation of bodies. This spread development costs. A hiatus between the K3 and it successor will only increase demand for the latter.

Touch screens are terrible; particularly on a camera. Touch screens are in my opinion example of dysfunctional technology. Have yet to find a single example of one that works flawlessly. That is, doesn't need several attempts or doesn't start functions accidentally.

Pentax designs flagship camera for three plattforms. Aps is their volum segment. Nothing has changed.
