Thanks for the info. I have two of the Lester Dine branded Kiron lenses. Time perhaps to unload one to help pay for the Laowa :D

The native infinity to 2× magnification as well as auto aperture are the draw for me. If it equials or outperforms my Kiron 105mm it be more than happy.

Pretty quick delivery times. The more I see the more I want. I wish I had the funds available.

I should point out in Thomas Shahan's recent videos and Facebook presentation say he pretty much stopped using combinations like reversed, stacked and TCs in favor of the various Laowa macros lenses. And he was using the 100mm more than the others mainly due to the aperture automation.

I don't shoot macro in the field so if I want greater than 1× I'll use bellows and 50mm lens or shorter. Not a rig I would really want to shoot in the field with.

So except for the lack of a lock the mount is pretty much a throwback to the 80-90s KA mount with the insulated plugs.
You really have to be in awe of Thomas Shahan as he is doing handheld focus stacking shots.

It is only a KA mount from my understanding, no chip. How many pins does it have on the mount? Post some pictures?

Not listed yet on BH Photo but will probably be available through them eventually. They list all the previous Laowa offerings in K mount.

All this teasing. Is it Friday yet?
The excitement level for this lens is certainly high!

Welcome to Pentax Forums. I hope the members won't overwhelm you too much with questions  I see you give your location as Hong Kong. I was going to ask Doundounba where he ordered the lens from.
Is that a portrait of honeybee? :)

Can't wait for more hands-on reports in addition to Thomas Shahan's.

Hopefully this is the trend. Perhaps they are using profits from the sales of more widely used mounts to fund production of the lesser used ones.

I wonder if they will sell the special reverse adapter they made for Thomas Shahan as well. |

If you are using catch-in-focus you want it set on AF-S. At least that's how my K10D works.

Definitely encouraging, in the "live" video he wouldn't or couldn't say if it would be released or not but now he is calling it a "pre-release" version and that it will be available for sale in KA mount. Although he gives no release dates.
Test comparison shots look impressive.

Well, Thomas Shahan is not a Laowa representative (although he is almost an unofficial "ambassador") so Laowa may not have shared that information with him. Unfortunately I was watching a movie and forgot about the event so I missed it live to press the question. From above the Viet Nam and UK representatives seem to think it will be released although they have no idea of a date either.
Here's the youtube link to the "live" video (for those like me that detest Facebook) skip ahead about 50 minutes, seems to be a lot of dead space before people started asking questions): Youtu.be |

From what I got from one viewing of the video is that he values the low-cost, image quality, magnification and convenience of Laowa's all-in-one solutions over the clumsy and cumbersome lens arrays (e.g. stacked lenses, extension tubes, teleconverters). He is not using the 60mm much now since the 100mm has aperture linkage though he prefers the shorter focal length.

I missed it live but the Facebook Laowa video is available: Log into Facebook | Facebook
He talked about the equipment he's using - Pentax K-30 and K-3 - mainly the K-3 - likes the image quality and ruggedness - very tough on his equipment - dropped many time, covered with sweat, DEET etc. Most used lenses at the moment are the Laowa 25mm 5× and the 100mm 2×. The 100mm has aperture linkage (unlike the 60mm) for the Pentax but he didn't know when or even if it would be available. His Instagram said it was custom made (though he may have been talking about the coupling lens adapter on the front).
About 55 minutes in he talks about his Pentax bodies (looking to update but wants a good viewfinder and good video)
About 1 hr 18 minutes talks about favorite Laowa lenses @ ~1:20 talks about the 100mm @ ~1:33 talks more about the 100mm.

No flat out denial so that's a good sign. Less than 2 weeks for Thomas Shahan's live video.

The 100mm is full-frame. The 60mm is not.
