The camera in question is a K-50 bought new correct?
In the US (and in USD):
A used Like-New K-50 from KEH is $282 USD
People who have had to pay for repair from Ricoh Authorized Repair Center (Precision Camera) report paying $175 USD (plus shipping)
Used Ex+, LN K-70 from KEH are $474 and $495 USD, respectively
They may be basing the "not economically repairable" estimate on the cost of a used K-50.
I would have to read the entire (fine print) of the warranty offered by JL and probably still would not understand it.
Options - send the camera to Ricoh Authorized Center for an estimate. Get an estimate of used prices of K-50s and K-70s as well as current prices of K-70s in the UK or EU. Get one of the third parties mentioned in previous posts involved using the prices gained above as leverage. You could try paying for the repair itself or purchasing a K-70 and hope the third party can recover your costs to whatever the JL warranty says (or what the parties involved agree it says).
Not much help I'm afraid.
