Cool. I just aimed at the starriest portion of the sky that night and hoped for the best. Thanks.

Still not sure what I'm doing. I seem to get a ton of bright stars but not the milky way. Maybe the first thing I need to do is figure out where it is. :)

Cross posted elsewhere - my friend and I went hunting except he wanted to shoot deer and I wanted to shoot stars. :)

Taken from the Ritz Carlton in Tucson. Conference schedule and gf prevented me from going further out there with the least light pollution. Not the result I was hoping for but its getting better.

Matt,
couldn't Imagestacker to work on my jpegs. Not really sure what I am doing wrong but I know its user error. I tried to do my best with Starstax. I still got subpar results so I ended up trimming a huge part of the photo and kept the part that had the clearest trails. I am very confused as I am doing the exact same thing I did before with Starstax and my past attempts generated much better results than what I am getting now.

Tried and tried with jpegs but won't work. Problem is the error message comes and disappears in less than a second so I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I give up for now.

The files aren't going via email. Too big. Not really sure how to send files this big.

Thanks guys.

Matt, I'm going to try ImageStacker here in a few minutes and see what I can come up with.

A couple more.

I spent almost 5 hours here last night. The full moon was too bright and my skills were so painfully lacking that the only thing that kept the trip from being a complete waste of time was the quiet reflection the place invoked.

This may not be as bad as I think but I had such high expectations so I am a little embarrassed that this was the best I could do.

I also tried to do star trails but I am not getting any good results with Starstax lately. I am 100% sure it is user error.

Thank you very much Jim. I'll make it a trip out there as soon as all these clouds start going away. I imagine it must've been really dark out there.

Fantastic shots. I live just a couple hours away from this area and have been meaning to landscape astro shots. Did you use OGPS unit for these shots?

You guys are just plain fantastic. Here are my very first two attempts of night skies. I'll try another one soon with more interesting foreground.
