I like both shots they are very well done and a fine example of the religious architecture in Quebec
I think both images are very sharp. I think the sense of sharpness between the 2 photos is more due to the curves in the roof line and arches, the perspective. towards the altar.and being off line to the center of the church
In the setup of the shot I believe you were using the candles as your subject and the rest of the sanctuary along with the line perspective of the pews as background. If you were able to do the same shot down the middle isle with the altar as the focal point some of the distortion may be less noticeable

Bruce
Thank you for sharing your insight on Pixel shift technology.

I too have done some experimentation with the technology with my K-70 which I believe shares the same technology as the K-1. I did however find that I did get the best results while using a tripod or having the camera sitting on some hard surface combined with use of the 2 second delay shutter timer.

I also had some success shooting Hand Held with varying results using short zoom or prime lenses, the viewfinder and Motion Correction on in combination with breathing and camera steadying techniques learned shooting with film

Having said this I can't rule out that where the K-70 has the smaller 24 MP APS-C sensor in comparison to the larger Full Frame Sensor of the K1 may also be a contributing factor. This alone will give much less data to be processed by the camera resulting in possibly different results

Magnificent capture of what I like to refer to as a "Brief moment in time"

Both software packages read the blended 4 image file created by the camera software.after which you are able to convert to Tiff using your choice of protocol or standard

I'm not familiar with the K1 but the within the firmware package for the K70, Pixel Shift Motion correction can be applied to the blended image within the camera at the time of shooting and can be from what I understand be modified or adjusted within Silkipix Digital Camera Utility 5. Possibly through reverse engineering the algorithm use by the camera to separate the original 4 images and reapply the algorithm. Any time I used the process with DCU 5 the image on the screen would refresh in segments as the program separated the layers of the blended images, made the corrections and reintegrated the blended images back together.
In my mind this would make sense considering the possibility that Silkipix probably wrote the code that blends and creates the Pixel Shift images within the K70 so they would be able to produce the code to reverse engineer the process. Another indicator of this possibility is the size of the file created when using Pixel Shift, the average non Pixel shift PEF Raw file is 20 to 23 MB while a Pixel Shift PEF Raw file is over 100 MB or 4 times as large

I've been following the more recent posts in the thread and I found that FastStone Image Viewer will convert even PEF Raw Pixel Shift files directly from my K70 to 24 bit Tiff files for processing with other software. There is also a pretty good basic editing package within Faststone as well which comes in handy sometimes. Plus one of the best attributes of FastStone it is Free

I also checked converting Pixel shift Images with Corel Aftershot 3 and the software package will read the PEF Raw Files convert them to 16 bit tiff and export them to Paintshop Pro

I'm not all that familiar with the K7 but I do know that the K50/K500, which are of the same generation, internally processed HDR images and saved them as JPEG images. My K70 like the K3II will save HDR processed along with Pixel Shift Images as Raw files.

I don't know if you are aware that the Raw File Editor bundled with most versions of Photoshop & Photoshop Elements will save DNG RAW & PEF RAW files as separate DNG files after editing including Pixel Shift Images

Yes possibly at higher shutter speeds where use of shake reduction is not as critical, using the internal camera motion correction algorithm setting as found in the K70 or if you try using a secure bracing stance with an external body support such as a wall or tree while controlling your breathing to control camera shake as you would shooting with film

First Pixel shift image with a K70/DA 18-135 Combination with Motion correction on. Image captured in DNG RAW and converted to JPG in PP
I was surprised how the part of a tree branch in the stream that was constantly moving was not blurred and the level of detail captured on the rocks under the water
