That's what I usually say, but wasn't sure that everyone would understand the meaning.

Just an observation by someone with two K-50s with the faulty solenoid -- were I a seasoned camera repairman and wanting to keep these cameras for personal use, I might replace them with the Chinese solenoids, knowing that if they failed again it would be no big deal. On the other hand, not knowing exactly what I'm doing, as my only experience would be taking another camera apart, I'd likely want to ensure that this job would be done only once, thus the plan to use white solenoids from a donor camera. Moreover, if I wanted to sell these two K-50, I think both buyer and seller would feel better about using the white solenoids.

About taking a functioning camera apart, that's where I am right now. I just bought a K100D that was delivered today that was described as not working, nevertheless, it seems to work fine, although there is some sort of an issue with the mode dial. If it has two white solenoids in it (does anyone know for sure how many there are??) it might go on the chopping block, but I'm not sure. So I risked forty couple dollars for this camera which in working order really isn't worth very much. On the other hand, putting two K-50 back into working order offers a significantly greater return.

Now I had two white solenoids that I removed from a semi-working ist DS, but those have been misplaced.

It looks to me that the black/grey solenoid was a replacement part in the DS. Perhaps someone had tried to repair a fault. If you look at the left side hole in that solenoid, you can see the impression of a screw or something around that hole, an indication that it had once been mounted in another piece of equipment. There also is some red thread locker on that side of the solenoid.
