Beautiful building indeed, sadly there's no angle (short of using a boat) to hide the building behind.

John.

Comments welcome on this shot with 100% crops from my D & 6x7 500/5.6. The tower blocks are 1.8km and wind turbine approx. 25km away:

Stunning colours, really surprised how clearly the bands in the rocks are rendered, love the clouds too.

I haven't looked at Velvia chromes for a while, I've just found this one and see what you mean about the greens - it's not even proper Velvia (RVP)!

Stunning shots, like many on this forum you're able to make magic out of otherwise average scenes.

Keen to know if the beautiful colours are down to 100Mp, artistry and/or filtration as well as imagination.

I managed to get a few shots of G-NWAA from the North West Air Ambulance as it lifted off from a nearby school playing field with the D. Despite the wide open field, they chose to land near one edge (possibly to avoid problems with flailing sports equipment). They are a charity based in the North West of England providing a helicopter ER service.

Dragonfly with a D, this critter visited my garden a few days ago (first time I've been able to get a shot of one). I used my D with FA 80-160 (cropped), handheld for expediency - had I known it was going to sit there sunning itself for ten minutes or so I'd have gone for my 67 135, tubes and a tripod. As far as I can identify from the web, it's a variation of Common Darter:

Really impressed with the 150-300 from those shots, I have the A*300 and have been trying to fill the gap between the 80-160 & 300 with various 67 lenses (165, 200 & 90-180) but I'll rethink this. As far as the reviews go, it's worth keeping an eye out for 'unfair' low scores or in the case of the 645, those relating to film (the latter was a problem for me when looking at the FA33-55).

RE: FA33-55 - I haven't had chance to test this properly, but I've had a look at some of my existing shots. I use the lens mostly for landscapes and most don't have any sensible edge/corner detail to use for testing. The image below has some detail at the centre & edges (note this direct from the DNG and hasn't had any processing other than re-sizing and adding the 100% crops).

It's possible I used a Cokin P circular polariser, which may be pushing the limits as far as the 82mm filter thread goes.

Abersoch, Wales:
Pentax 645D, 645 FA33-55 @33, ISO 200, 1/1000th @ f/8, handheld.

Distances from the camera:
Centre: Houses (red) - approx. 1.25 miles, Left: Yachts (yellow) - approx. 1 mile, Right: Cabins (blue) - approx. 800ft

As an image, I feel it looks much better in monochrome.

My first thought was Velvia too.

I too was wary about buying the FA33-55 for my D due to the lack of reviews (I scoured the web with little luck). I summised that since most (all?) related to 645 film, the corners had to be better on 33x44. I mainly use mine for landscapes handheld and haven't noticed significant issues. I should also test and post a review.

In reality, the 28-45 is simply over my budget. I thought about a 35mm prime but the 33-55 gives me the option of a two lens outfit with the FA80-160.

A few weeks ago the Moon was out in daylight and nearly full, an ideal opportunity to get the D & SMC 67 500/5.6 out.

ISO 200, 1/125th @ f/11 (cropped):

The tripod is an old Uni-Loc 1600 Major with ball head (the stealth 'camouflaged' version in brown) configured in 'quad-pod' mode - the centre-column braced against the ground in addition to the legs:

Superb example of using a shift lens for a landscape. Once the current lockdown in the UK is over I hope to get mine out more than previously.

That's a really interesting image recording a unique moment in time with a lot happening (who needs a Leica M). Really good composition.

Nice portrait, looks a bit forlorn, unloved and a bit sad, hopefully it will be fixed up to fly again.

Atmospherics in the form of haze, rain or pollution play a big part in long distance shooting. Not quite a 600/4 but one of my test shots with the 67 500/5.6 (which is big 'n heavy enough!) from my 645D is below. I make this about 440mm in FF terms, shot at f/11.

The tower blocks are 1.8KM from the camera, the wind farm is about 25KM away. Very rarely are the atmospherics this clear - only evident after I shot this image:

Update: Most days are much murkier, even when it's not raining (a rare occasion in Manchester, UK).

+1 I don't currently do my own processing (not enough time) but it is something you should try.

Thanks for the clarification, sorry if it sounded flippant.

I've just picked up a used 55 for the same reason, the rest of my lenses are FA zooms (guided by your excellent reviews).

Thanks for sharing the ones you've posted here, I really appreciate the stunning shots posted by the many talented photographers on here - they are inspiring me to try and get out more and try to improve my work.

Come on Rick, play fair, you shouldn't have mentioned you shot this with the 'kit' lens... What else have you got under your sleeve after this and the 'accidental' Eagle shot...

I should use my P67 35FE more often, I prefer to use it with the WLF so I can see the edges of the frame (I don't carry the WLF often).

If you keep the horizon dead level and central, it works OK on the 645D without appearing fishy.

Great shot Matt, gives me some inspiration to put more effort into my D and A*300/4 combo.

I remember you're mention of this in your post Alaska report. Amazing shot under the circumstances.

I'm mulling over whether to go for the
1.4x or 2x for my A*300/4 - for when my 67 500/5.6 is a tad burdensome (having managed to resist a 67 600/4)...

Very interesting images, the 90 LS is one of my favourite lenses, with a FoV similar to the FA43 on film.
