Portrait Lens and Macro

***Subject should read; Portrait Lens and Close-up

The age old question again; is 50mm (75mm) too short and is 90mm (135mm) too long? The reason I ask is I'd like to get a lens that is good for both portrait and close-up shots (not macro).

I have the Sigma 18-50 so, is the long end too short (oxymoron? ;) ) making distortion of a face noticeable? If not then all I need is a 540 flash.

2 other lenses I have been pondering are the Tamron SP AF 90mm F/2.8 Di Macro and the Sigma 70mm F2.8 EX DG Macro.
