I never tried stacking the moon... What process / app are you using for that ? (just curious)
I have Zerene Stacker for macros, and used to try DeepSkyStacker for Andromeda galaxy (link here), but the moon is moving more faster, might be hard to keep the same framing on multiple shots... (yes I know auto-align exist in those, but it adds more artifacts most of the times the images are misaligned)

HI, I don't want to start a debate, but I'd be curious to see one of the best single shot you had in that stack, and compare it to the one frame shot I just did before your original post... are you gaining that much resolution with a stack like this ?
just curious

Well, sometimes, the camera images cannot always render the way humans see things, so if that's done with that in mind, I think it can be acceptable... but that depends on each person's values...
Anr example of acceptable stacking in Photoshop IMO, is when someone does a starfield with the astrotracer, the object or horizon area on earth always get blurry, so here I'd say it's not a problem to take a separate shot of the surrounding areas to merge them on PP.

I was lucky enough to cross this Snowy Owl today... It flew from a top of a barn to the top of a tree, where the moon filled the background.
I have to tell it's my lady that provided me the idea to position myself in order to cath them both in the frame... Thanks to my beloved! :-)

, sorry about that!
have you look at the directly on Flikr (click on the double arrow up right to enlarge)? I think the last one looks more "realistic" than the PP one

I was looking at the photos I took the last time, for lack of time to shoot something else... and found that some shots were pretty good, event better without PP.
So I decided to post an example of the IQ of the SMC Pentax-FA* 250-600mm f5.6 ED [IF] lens can do @ 600mm. This photo is the same moon as above, except it is direct from the camera and no PP has been applied except a crop to better fill the frame.... Which one do you like better ??

Aren't these mounts meant to follow the stars, not the moon ?

I have tried pixel shift (With or without motion control) a couple times with the moon so far, and haven't got very conclusive results, the still images were always sharper and with less artifacts...
