Humm, can't answer generally, but for myself....APS-C and 35mm "full frame" are really close, in most ways. Again, this is just for ME....they're, for ME, for all intents and purposes identical. Not for everybody, for ME. It may be that I'm the only person in the world feeling like that, and that the reason I feel that is that I am the worst photographer since light was invented...I can live with that :D
Now, again to ME, the difference, the step up, from either APS-C or 35mm "full frame" to medium format is huge - at least, that's how I perceive it.
So, if I was to win the lottery, it's much more likely that I'd keep shooting APS-C and get a 645Dii (assuming such a beast comes out), than that I would get a 35mm "full frame". Especially as both a 35mm "full frame" and a 645Dii would require me to acquire new lenses (many of my current DA Ltd and DA* won't work well on either), I'd be more inclined to spring on the MF bandwagon.
Now, as to how to win the lottery, I'm open to suggestions ;)
(PS: the writing of "full frame" in scare-quotes is intentional....I find it hard with a straight face to talk about 35mm as "full frame" in the same sentence as I am talking about medium format....)

SighS, I was afraid that this would happen.
I used the "Ltd" designation (which I think was never used for Pentax MF lenses...) since I explicitly was targeting a lens with that fancy-pants 21th century tech, known as "Auto Focus", in it.
If I'd meant a MF lens, I'd not have written Ltd, but something else (such as A/A*).
I am, of course, aware that there are 20th century MF lenses of that range out there - but, Pentax has not released a 135/1.8 Ltd .... and they /really/ should do so.

They have, have they? Just without releasing it in public, is that it?

No idea who DxOMark is, or why I should care what he thinks on this matter ;)

Thought that we should try something new, for a change ;)
I'd rather put it this way....would I buy a FF camera? Probably not.
Would I buy a camera with a larger, brighter viewfinder? I probably would. If Pentax can figure out to build a satisfying EVF, or an APS-C, doing that, or if they do it by building a compact FF, I wouldn't care one iota. I might actually if they could find a way without going FF, as I am quite fond of some of my DA Limited's that wouldn't work on a FF.
But FF-for-the-sake-of-FF....doesn't make sense to me. It may to some, though...

Well, I was being argumentative, in parts - but also wanted to strike home the point that it's not always that "size matters".
(And, yes, I am aware of the CCD-vs-CMOS differences, as you guessed....)

Well, I would submit that if that's a real need, then Pentax does make a 645D that should be even better than a 35mm "FF", no?

Oh, how else would we be able to, on a weekly basis, objectify that "Pentax is doomed"?
No, personally I don't get it either, my current digital bodies (and I have neither of the K5-versions....) do me quite nicely.
I'd rather spend 1KEur on a nice lens, than I would on a FF camera body....actually, that's exactly what I've done.
Maybe I should start crying that Pentax hasn't made an 135/1.8 Limited yet, you think it'd help?
