Michael, thanks very much for your comments. THAT was what I was hoping for when I first posted this, rather than a nudge toward the reviews. As soon as I get this hip joint replacement done and over with, I'm hoping to be able to get back out in the field with my camera and join the fun! Until then, all I can do is participate in the discussions on the site.... ask a few questions and post photos from my portfolio of days past. Thanks again.

That's ALWAYS the first place I start. That's why I asked for a "personal testimonial," hopefully from a regular contributor rather than someone I never heard of that has only ONE post.... and it's a review. Know what I mean?

I've been a Tamron fan ever since I bought my first one.... a 28-200mm Close Focus lens I found at a yard sale. It went on to become one of my most used lenses ever! It will forever have it's spot reserved in my lens case. I now own TWO Tamron lenses. The second is a new-in-the-box Tamron 10-24mm F3.5-4.5 SP AF Di II.

My question is: Can anyone give me a personal testimonial on this lens? I'm going to take it on an outing this coming Sunday. The closest thing I've ever used that remotely compares to this is a Pentax-DA 15-45mm.

Thanks for any comments.

Thank you, sir. Your photos of the fall foliage back in November are stunning! I can only hope my lens is as good and I get a chance to find such a beautiful subject. Very nice work.

I've got a new-to-me Tamron lens coming soon! It's an 18-200mm LD (IF) Macro. Any of you have this lens? If so, any comments or opinions?

I won't put too much faith in the reviews as they sell the Tamron 28-200mm quite short of the qualities MINE displays!

I've had this Tamron AF(IF) 28-200mm lens for about two years now and it is, without a doubt, one of my five favorite lenses I own. An early production run.... #0000404, it has always been incredible sharp with good color saturation and the AF is always spot-on. About 70% of the original frame was cropped out.

ISO 400, 1/250th @ f:8. 200mm FL.

In spite of the less-than-stellar reviews, MY copy of the Tamron 28-200mm lens has always been my go-to lens when I want or need a "one-fit's-all" piece of glass. I took a day trip this past week, and in spite of taking no less than a dozen lenses, I found myself locked and loaded with the Tammy and only switched once for a particular shot out of a total of 214 images!

What a great lens.

One night this past week, I couldn't sleep, so I did what comes natural.... I grabbed a camera and set out to photograph something.... anything! So, I headed over to the seedy part of town to take some photos of a little tavern with neon lights. I used a Tamron 28-105mm AF lens. I've owned this particular lens for some time, but this was the first time I've ever used it for anything other than some test shots shortly after buying it. I was very pleased with it's capabilities.

Matt, I took your advice and took a few photos of the moon last night and I had some reasonable success. I was amazed at just how little exposure it actually took to get decent results. I waited until much too late a night to get anything other than static shots with nothing other than the moon itself rather than something to "run interference" with it.... but, now I know how to go about it.

Thanks for the advice. You were spot on! Now, I'm anxiously awaiting the return of my Pentax-K, 400mm lens from Eric. THEN I can get down to some serious "shootin' the moon!"

I know exactly what you mean when you say, "just the moon"! During the Super Moon thing not long ago, the forum was inundated with photos of "just the moon!" I took a hiatus for a few days until the furror died down. I live in a area that is filled with wildlife, so the 400mm will have plenty of subjects to photograph.... maybe a wolf howling at the moon!

As a matter of habit, carried over from my many years of film photography, I tend to shoot in manual mode most of the time. Maybe because I always want to "be in charge," dunno! Thanks for the information on lunar photos. I'll give it a try next time we get a full moon here in Idaho. I can drive a few miles and not have any city lights interfere with things. I recently bought a very nice SMC Pentax-K f:5.6, 400mm lens and I'm jonesin' to get it in my hands! The moon would be a nice subject to use it on.

Excellent capture, Sage. I don't know how you guys manage to get such nice photos of the moon. Mine always look washed out, with NO DETAIL at all in the moon. It simply looks like a bright, glowing orb. Please impart your wisdom to this neophyte lunar wannabe!

It didn't take me very long to realize that you've got to take what is said in the lens reviews with a very large grain of salt! I have read reviews on lenses that I currently have that have proven themselves to be quite good if not superb, but to hear it told in some of the reviews, they wouldn't even serve as decent paperweights!

I have a Tamron 28-105mm that has given me some remarkable captures. I guess I can't say I've ever had a BAD Tamron lens, come to think of it.

I currently have a Tamron 28-200mm Macro that is the lens I use more than any other.... and I absolutely love it! But, I'd like to have the little extra bit of "reach" that the 28-300mm affords so I'm contemplating this version. My question: Do any of you have this lens and what can you tell me about it. I've read the reviews, but thought I'd ask for opinions here on the Tammy forum. It seems as if it goes a little soft at the 300mm range. Have you experienced this? I notice that there are two versions, a silver model and a all black one. What is the difference between the two, if any?

Thanks for any information you may offer.

Tamron 28-200mm Macro-Zoom. Every time I use this lens, I fall in love all over again! I have no idea what the little alien light balls are! I think if I would have stopped the lens down more, I might have discovered some star shapes.

It is the front-runner as the sharpest lens I own, with a Vivitar 80-200mm Macro Zoom and a SMC Pentax f:1.4, 50mm close behind. But none offer the versatility, contrast and saturation as my Tamron. NONE! :D

The Vulcan is a MASSIVE aircraft! Nice shots. I especially like the first one. The Tamron is one heck of a lens, eh Stephen? I love my 28-200mm. My absolute favorite of all I own!

I have many lenses at my disposal, but I almost always, without fail, find myself with my Tamron 28-200mm AF-A (IF) Macro attached to my camera. I can find NO fault with it. It's tack sharp, the contrast and saturation is great, the bokeh is wonderful when shot with an open aperture, it's lightweight and covers virtually every situation I find myself in. Seldom do I need anything wider than 28mm or need more reach than 200mm.

Yesterday, I went to a little park on the Snake River and I took a slew of lenses, but found myself not needing to change from the old faithful Tamron. I've got a 62mm polarizing filter for it on order then I plan to make a return visit to the park for more photography. It's a very interesting place with some amazing bronze sculptures and various other items worthy of the visit.

Very nice shot, Brink. I like the selective focus a lot. Nice stop-action and crispness, too. Gotta' love the Tamron lens.

Whoa! Stunning shot, Matt! Would I be correct in assuming it was shot from an aircraft? These days, it might have been shot from a drone.

Very nice, Mr. Anson. I just bought my first Tamron, a 28-200mm not long ago and it has become one of my favorites. I really like the contrast and color saturation I get with it. It's also one of the sharper lenses I own. I got it, along with a PZ-1 and camera bag for $15.00.

Recently, I stopped at a yard sale and bought a Pentax P3 with a Tamron 28-200 lens and camera bag for $15.00. Having never owned a Tamron lens before, I immediately installed in on my K2000 and went out into the neighborhood and put the lens through it's paces. I was astonished at the lenses sharpness, color saturation and contrast! Simply amazing! I'm sold.
