Mid November is when the salmon run starts in Harrison, we get anywhere from 2,000 - 10,000 (this past year we got just over 3,000). A couple months later they head up to Squamish and a "handful" stay in the Vancouver area until March. We had over 1,500 that left 2 weeks ago. The ones out here are far from solitary, they're very social and you can see 20-40 in one tree :) They'll fly within 5 feet of you and fight over food 20 feet away.

I do notice the purple fringing in bright light, or even water reflections. Underexposing does help and if I'm not tired I even remember to correct that in PP, apparently I missed it this time around. It's a downside for sure, but the sharpness more than makes up for it ---------- Post added 03-20-16 at 12:39 PM ----------
or come up to Vancouver after the salmon run this year :) We get around 2000 of them that congregate in this one area, flying less than 5 feet away from you, fighting 30 feet away

I guess I should be cross posting some photo's here since the 560 has now become my walk around lens. I love that in the "dead" of a Vancouver winter, we still get hummingbirds. Im not a Pygmy Owl by Kameko Walker, on Flickr
