With the 5D and the elusive 58mm f/2 'Sonnar' Takumar from the late 50's:

I understand why FF is cumbersome. Indeed, the weight is not nice... But the viewfinder and the pictures are. So I have a cheap old 5D and I will keep it for my MF lenses.

Today I used my cheap Meyer 100mm f/2.8 Orestor. I find it hard to say, but the Orestor definitely trounces any of the 105mm Takumars I have ever tried. It trounces them on sharpness, bokeh and even microcontrast...

It seems that we are the only fullframe shooters on this forum, Jay

How can you tell this photo was taken in The Netherlands? Shot with my newly acquired Yashica ML 21mm f/3.5 (Contax/Yashica mount).

Interesting effect in the last shot, Jay! And the series with your son is very nice too (especially with the captions).

A few more with the "fullframe look" :)

Same girl, same lens (Carl Zeiss Jena 80mm f/1.8 Pancolar stopped down slightly), same camera, shot around the same time in the same spot. But the processing was slightly different ;)

Jay, I really like your style. I'd love to do something like that, but I feel uneasy working in B&W. I'll stick to my own style I think... :)

Shot with the 5D and a very old Canon kit lens: the EF 28-70 3.5-4.5 II. I was told this comes VERY close to Canon's L zooms with regards to IQ. Or so I was told...

All handheld (and the 5D certainly is not a high-ISO machine).

So much for the "Full Frame is not needed" camp. Once you have tried the format, there's no way back. :p

The fun thing about the 5D is that every lens seem to shine on it :)

How the FA* 80-200 and FA* 85/1.4 (edit: and also the F* 300/4.5) perform on the 5D (the lenses are unharmed of course as I used a small extension tube between the 5D and the lenses).

I believe the FA* 85/1.4 is not at its best here because I had to use it at its infinity setting. And we all know that the FA* 85/1.4 does not excel at infinity...

How about using a $20 100mm f/2.8 Pentor lens wide open on the 5D, and even nailing the focus?

Today it was dreary cold, and I had no real inspiration, but I'm posting the pictures anyway :)

I used the 55mm f/1.8 S-M-C Tak. Why? Because it is a superb lens, cheap, and can be used on the 5D from infinity to the MFD without any modification to either the lens or the camera.

I have been told that the FD 85mm f/1.2 S.S.C. Aspherical is Canon's best 85/1.2. I don't know, but let me give you a 100% crop of the shot in question. I think it's pretty sharp for a f/1.2 shot!

Thanks! And indeed, that was the hardest part (making him stand still).

And now the technical part: I mounted the lens the Q&D way. I used a PK to Canon EF adapter, and on that a Canon FD to PK adapter with the glass removed. This shot was made with the lens at infinity. I like this lens so much that I'm thinking about having it converted to EF mount. However, I doubt if it's a good decision because there could be a FF EVIL on the horizon, in which case having it converted is paying money for no additional benefits...

RMC Tokina 17mm f/3.5 PK-mount on Canon 5D.

(The Tokina works as-is without any modification, on a PK to EF adapter, because it does not have a diaphragm lever protection flange).

It was meant for fun, Guys! The M85/2 does not work on the 5D because the diaphragm protection flange interferes with the mirror (I get an error 99 if I try to take the photo, and no I'm not modifying my lenses but I will shave the 5D's mirror). The Canon lens does work on the K-5 because I use an adapter with corrective element.

No fullframe shots (yet!) but I could not resist the big sensor which came at a very attractive price :)
