Yeah because they had to take it out for the Pentax, which is extra work :p. I would just keep it and let the user decide which stabilisation they use.

most primes are sharp in the centre but if you want the detail in the corners to be sharp wide open, then you need a modern big prime. I don't know wide you would need the detail in the corners to be sharp on a portrait lens shooting at F1.4, but hey that doesn't really matter. You can look at the corners and see they are mushy. That sucks, that isn't what you paid for, even though you can shoot a stellar portrait with the lens those corners will keep on nagging you.

I think a refresh would be quite expensive. A different drive would probably mean a redesign of the lens. Ricoh has given us high quality variable aperture lenses for aps-c (20-40, 16-85, 55-300plm). I think this is the road they have taken. For large aperture constant zooms you will have to rely on the old lenses or move to full frame. Maybe if Pentax survives the next five years and aps-c remains a good seller for Ricoh, then those lenses will see a refresh. But then again, Ricoh might have entered the mirrorless arena by then.

Ricoh can wait because there are no alternatives apart from the Sigma 35mm 1.4 which was there already before the K-1. The DA* zooms were also announced long before they were launched. The DA* 60-250 F4 first appeared on a roadmap in 2006 (with full designation) to be launched in 2007 but is was finally available spring 2009. Two years extra wait. Let's hope we don't have to wait until 2019.

I could import a K-1 from the US and still pay considerably less than when I buy one in Europe (€280) after paying for shipping VAT and import duties and costums and handling costs. The only thing stopping me is I have to forgo on warranty. I doubt international shipping is covered by it and it only is one year instead of two here in the EU. Ricoh doesn't allow price stunting. Even shops that are flying under the radar of price comparison sites are called to order on that.

Yeah and it is 1310 grams vs 520-70 grams. it's just how you tell it. I maintain the differences are far greater than the specs they would likely have in common, being 35/50/85 F1.4 T1.5 Which is are pretty common focal lengths for full frame systems. I expect you think Pentax will also bring out an 18mm F.4 and a 25mm F1.4 The two other primes in the Tokina Vista Prime line up.

That doesn't explain the difference in length. The Pentax 50 will be under 10cm, the Tokina is over 13cm. The Zeisses are only 1cm apart which can be explained by the front part extruding more so it is acting like a hood. Also the weight difference is much less dramatic. The D FA* will probably be less than 800 grams (given it has a smaller filter diameter than the Sigma 50mm 1.4 art which is 815grams). Diameters are standardized for Cine lenses but length isn't and weight must be the metal body, but when weight is so much more I suspect larger lens elements.

Specifications of the 50mm T1.5

over two kg and a 112mm filter size. These are totally different beasties. The D FA* 50mm 1.4 has a 72mm filter size.

Why doesn't Tokina sell those primes as AF versions for Canon and Nikon then? I am sure they would sell a hell of a lot more than making a few hundred for Pentax. The fact that these are MF and AF will demand a completely different setup of the lens and because they cost what they cost. That's where Tokina gets the development costs from, These are lenses for the Video and Movie industry, not consumers.

If Ricoh were cooperating with Tokina still, they would have used the Tokina 24-70, not the Tamron. No using in fretting about every lens brought out by Tokina. Those aren't AF designs anyway.

FD mount is 30 years ago. EF mount was always electronic with no mechanical couplings. Pentax now has one lens like that...

Volume doesn't tell everything. Pentax has worked with much lower volumes for years and Ricoh managed the D FA* 70-200 for a competitive price compared to Canonikony.
1600 seems to be the agreed level between Canon and Nikon. Pentax will probably go between the Sigma and Canonikon at $1400-1500.

Canon just launched a 85mm 1.4 It's dimensions and weight should be similar to what we can expect from Pentax. (Hopefully price a bit lower).

Large aperture wide in single focus lens with gold bar on the roadmap. The Ultra wide is probably a 20mm F2.8 or something like that. That Fish Eye zoom look like it could be on the roadmap for a long time like DA wide zoom 12-2x. A full frame version of the 55-300 PLM is also coming. (F4-5.6 hopefully). Then de DA* 200mm is in need of replacement (but not fast because there is also the D FA* 70-200 which is prime sharp). What is missing most in the line up then is a 135mm and a F1.4 24mm. I would also like a second line of cheaper primes 24-28-35-50 (35 and 50 are really already here, just rename them to D FA). Eventually a D FA* 24-70 2.8 and a D FA 24-105 F4. And a light weight alternative to the D FA 15-30 2.8 (F4 or variable). Keep the limiteds. Make a modern version of the 50mm 1.4 (same optics but with HD coating and lens motor in the same style as the 20-40 2.8-4). As a go between the Plastic fantastic and the D FA*. The DA limiteds 70 and 40 should probably also be redone for full Frame. (Slightly larger for better corners). The Macro line up is fine but could use a better build quality and lens motors.

It's on the roadmap (a 20 or 24mm 1.4)

And the 28-105 F3.5-5.6. That's three home made and two outsourced. Hardly Everything... The primes will be Pentax designs.

It won't be. PLM is not for heavy glass elements.

In general If there is news it will be on the forum. If you need to ask, there is no news.

Left 24-70 Right 28-105

The Pentax design certainly has more sealings and i would say better sharpness and constrast at the long end. At the wide end center sharpness of the 24-70 is a bit better. Then again the The pentax design doesn't have 24mm or f2.8 and de tamron measurements (because it really is a Tamron) are competitive with the Nikons 24-70 if not Canons L II lens which is sharper. It is not for nothing the lens is D FA and not D FA*.
