The K-5/K-3 is about the right size for a serious compact camera system. The more serious mirrorless camera's are also gravitating towards that size. Once you make a decent grip the shallower registration distance loses it's advantage size wise. Just Look at the Panasonic Lumix DC G9 It is about the same size as the K-5/K-3. For more casual shooters mirrorless offers more compactness.

I am seeing full frame getting cheaper with new generations hitting the market. The Sony A7 II is available under a thousand grey import. Still very capable cameras. If a small player like Ricoh is able to make a full frame dslr under $2000, then mechanically simpler almost fully electronic mirrorless camera's should not be too expensive to make. Basically they are computers so they will largely benefit from the general progress of computing capabilities. Sensor tech is being driven by smart phones, industrial applications and traffic sensor tech. This will also find application in camera's. Camera companies that neglect the entry level will eventually disappear because others will jump in.

I do not think Ricoh will be bringing back any discontinued FA lenses.

I am guessing the prices for de remaining SMC lenses will soon be dropping to below the introduction price in Europe. So keep an eye out for a deal. It won't last long.

European pages are up to:
They are showing a comparison between SMC and HD 35mm F2:
Certainly less reflections. I view that as less character so I will be happy with a cheaper SMC model :p

Just because old stock is being sold of at a loss in the US doesn't mean Ricoh is trying to raise prices. $400 is a good deal on an lens of this quality (the DA 35 F2.4 an even better one though it performs great on the K-1 and I am not obsessed by corners).

They even dropped the AL out of the lens name:
The zoom has a clamp (zoom lock I presume): |

There is an extreme wide angle on the road map. I hope for a 18mm which would be great with the 31 and 43 limited. FOV respectively 90/60/45 degrees.

I was kind of hoping for a metal takumar look, this is the nineties with a modern matte finish and a bit better focus ring (hopefully quickshift). vs old |

There were no pics with the rumor, maybe those will come tomorrow. Anyhow when announced on thursday we will know everything. On the bright side. There is still room for another announcement between January 31 and Feb 28 (when CP+ starts).

You might not care how it looks but many do.
It might also be a lens like the SMC Pentax-DA 35mm F2.4 AL replacing both FA 35 and DA 35 |

I would be very interested to see the 35mm F2. Looks like simply HD coating will be applied and hopefully a new body design so it doesn't look like the nineties anymore. Nu motor I think since there is nothing in the lens name about it. The lens itself is still very good, so it looks like a quick fix by Ricoh to extend the primes line up with more modern glass (albeit just coatings since they didn't add a D before FA). ---------- Post added 29-01-19 at 13:02 ----------
No I think it as a new version Of The SMC-Pentax FA 35mm F2 AL.
