This really shouldn't go here, but I can't find another lens "club" thread to put it in.
I recently acquired a Mamiya-Sekor 400mm f6.3 preset, screwmount lens at a thrift store. (I know, it is hardly an off-brand.) Here are two shots with it on my K10D. I think the bird is an adolescent Cooper's Hawk. (I hope the birders among us will correct me if I'm wrong. Wingspan was about 3 feet.) He/she grabbed one of our overfed squirrels and is making a lunch of it. Distance is about 200 ft. Photo at f11.
I can't say that I'm all that happy with how sharp they are. Perhaps it is my technique, but I expected better. These images have been sharpened with a capture and output sharpening process in Photoshop CS2. They were taken on a tripod with a remote release and with shake reduction turned off. They are also cropped a bit.
