I think these sales are linked directly to a very much slowing global economy. In the US all of Q4 retail sales across the US economy, which is arguably one of if not the most significant thing for our economy. It included Christmas and Black Friday and Cyber Monday and all that... sales... all down. Amazon down. Ebay down. Macy's down.
The stock market (which I watch regularly) is on high alert and is see sawing back and forth because people are scared we are about to enter another recession.
But it's chalked up in the books as fact that retail sales for almost everything in the US are and have been declining even during key buying seasons so I don't see any reason why cameras would be any different.
THEN you add onto that Japan just went negative on their interest rates and the Chinese economy is horrid... the Shanghai stock market lost 25% of it's total value since December.
So basically I wouldn't pin the 'Pentax sales prices' on Pentax. They are just like everyone else.. they are trying to stay afloat just like every other retailer out there and are competing for ever tighter budgets across the globe.
