Hi Mo,
I think this shot was a 1/50sec. I had another that was at 1/60s, but it had crept out of the center of the frame. This was the one that was closest to the center, and I figured that was the sweetest spot I was going to get on this setup.
The tripod was pretty steady and I used the 2-second timer with a remote release. However, ALL the weight was on the ball head since the moon was almost directly overhead. That's a tough task with 2lbs of glass hanging off at an angle, so the ball head could have been moving a little bit.
I also tried with my Sigma 135-400 without the TC, but I messed up the metering and all the shots were severly overexposed.

I was planning on selling this cheap 2x Vivitar teleconverter, but I stuck it on my SMC 300mm f/4.0 and pointed it at the moon. This is what I got:
A little bit of fringing, and not the sharpest picture, but not bad for wide open. Also gave me a chance to try out my new tripod/monopod combo with ball head, and it worked like a charm! The moon was basically directly overhead, but the ballhead held firm with the camera and ~2 lbs of glass hanging off of it.
I guess I'll have to keep the TC. It's pretty convenient and easy to stick in your pocket.
