I just have to say, I love the SFX.

When my dad taught me about photography etc it was on either a Super-A or the SFXn

Both great cameras, and I have a huge soft spot for them.

Yep, no foam around entrance, and it looks clean inside there (from what I can see anyway)

I suspect maybe the counter has been maybe wound too far past 36 and it's skipped a tooth or something?

Not really sure, never actually had the counter apart on a camera with one.

To be honest, it might actually be an improvement, the ME lock button is too tiny and fiddly in my opinion (it's not bad to use, but I think without it it would have been better)

My Latest, 80s goodness.

Pentax Super-A by hks_kansei, on Flickr

Pentax Super-A European Camera of the year version.
With the original Pentax-A 50mm F1.4 (you can still see the shadow on the cap where it used to have the "european camera of the year 1983" sticker.

Seems in great condition, the only fault I can see is the film counter doesnt reset, but that's nothing.

Great gift from my parents for my birthday a few months ago.

Yeah, I forgot about the skin.

I never notice it though since whenever i'm in the garage my hands are usually soaked in oil, fuel, and all other stuff.

I use the brake clean to wash grease of my hands sometimes though...

Brake clean is great for cleaning, but can be pretty nasty.

At home (my girlfriend and I do a fair bit of car work at home) we use either the brake cleaner from "Wurth" or from Bursons.

The Bursons one you probably won't find (aussie company) but the Wurth stuff is available globally.

Never had either of them damage automotive paint. (but, not all companies use the same formula)

Bear in mind though, that by their nature brake cleaners will remove grease and oil of any kind, so if you clean out something that's supposed to be oiled/greased you'll need to regrease it afterwards.

Use it in a well ventilated area, and ALWAYS have some kind of eye protection if using the aerosol versions (any kinds really, the fumes dry your eyes out and make them sting)

Same.

Unfortunately since it's in a strange place on my car I needed to remove half the interior, and a rollcage.
Then had to wire up a different plug.... and find some connectors that would be safe in petrol.

Turned a 15min job into a good few hours.

The inside of the bellows looks like some kind of felt.
The outside some kind of leather/plastic...

So I fear I might have the ones you're talking about..

In saying that, these ones look in pretty good condition, the interior of the bellows are perfect, the exterior is ok for it's age.
Most importantly, I can't see a single pinpoint of light when I shine a bright light at them, so they seem to be tight for now.

And the car runs again now, I've just spent the morning putting in a new fuel pump.

So I bought a medium format the other day, collecting it was quite the debacle (car breakdowns, and other stuff happening)

But eventually it got home.

Apologies for the awful pics from my phone, but i'm feeling lazy this morning....... especially since I now need to go out and fix the stupid car.

I'll have to check it out

The lenses look amazing, which I think is what threw me at first since i'm used to seeing bad custom work on lenses.

These are done so perfectly you could have told me they were new from Pentax and I wouldn't have questioned you.

What on earth are the lenses with the orange aperture rings?

I assume they're custom? (I mean they're Screw mount, which means they're old, but the orange looks way too modern for the 70s)

I would love if you could maybe do a good scan/flat photograph of one of the LX stickers.
My father has a rather lovely display of Pentax gear, and I know he'd love (even reprint) of one of those LX stickers for the display.

You seem to have some pretty amazing camera markets over there.

You've done well getting a 1.2 at all, and even better for a great value one!

The ME super, and normal ME, are probably my favourite Pentax cameras of all time.

They just have a near perfect combination of reliability, size, simplicity, speed, and price.
The only thing I sometimes wish my ME had was the ability to manually choose the shutter speed, which the ME super fixed.

You've made a great first choice.

Here's my gear from a few months back.

Meeting. by hks_kansei, on Flickr

It all get used, except for the horrid canon things on the sides.
Missing from that shot are my *istDS, which was taking the photo, a Sigma flash, again used in photo.
There's also a WInder MEII and a Zorki-5 missing. The other Zorki is in about 100 pieces while I restore it to working order.

And here's a rough photo of some of the film that's usually in them.

Impressive.

How do you usually clean them? I tend to err on the side of caution and either not clean, or give them a wipe down.

Meeting. by hks_kansei, on Flickr

I found another flash the other night.
And a few unused bulbs for it!

When my girlfriend's father passed away we ended up with a lot of his things, a LOT, so there are boxes sitting around that haven't been opened in over 20 years.
Every so often we go for a rummage through one and see what's there.

Also in there was a nice slide viewer.

Note my photo, but same as this one:

I've been wanting to get my hands on a TLR for a while now, but they're so damn expensive!

So I just cleaned out the top shelf of the fridge to make room.....

Here's what came out.

Family portrait by hks_kansei, on Flickr

5x Kodak Ektar (new today actually)
5x Ilford HP5+
1x Ilford HP5+ (exposed)
2x Kentmere 100 (exposed)
2x Fuji Superia 200
1x Fuji Superia 200 (exposed)
1x Kodak Gold 200 (exposed ~10 years ago)
1x Kodak Gold 400 (exposed)
1x Kodak Ektachrome E100VS
1x Kodak Kodachrome 64 (exposed ~15 years ago)

The two old rolls are from my girlfriend's father's old cameras, he didn't finish the rolls before he passed away.
The Gold I'll get developed, but not really sure what to do with the Kodachrome....

Yep, I just put a roll through it this afternoon.
Great fun, but it takes an eternity to get used to the left/right swap from the mirror.

Oh yes, it's great fun.
I can't wait to put a roll of film through to test it's all in working order.

If that goes well I'll have to decide on how I go about the leather.

Trying to decide if I reglue the original old leather, or take it off and do a custom releather (thinking either a differnt colour, or some kind of exotic material)

So, I've added two new ones to my collection today.

A Zorki5, and a Praktica FX3

The Zorki lens is good (industrar) but the body is rough, the rangefinder isn't lining up, the body had been painted (yes, painted) gold over the metal, and brown on teh leather. Then somebody else put duct tape over the lot.
The duct tape at least took off the ugly gold paint with it, but left a sticky residue.
I'll clean it when I can be bothered dealing with sticky rubbish.

The Praktica seems to be fully functional, just filthy. There's dust and dirt all over it, and the lens has a bit of mould in the rear elements. it should be fun though, I just fell in love with that cute waist level finder!

Excuse the worst pictures ever, taken with my phone.

I've de-mushroomed a Pentax-A 28F2.8 quite successfully.

All you need is some isopropyl alcohol (easy to get at hardware shops), a few cotton buds, and a lens tissue or something.

The hardest part is keeping the internal elements from getting dust on them during re-assembly.

That is one of the cleanest Zorks I have seen.

It's interesting to see the different character compared to my one with more "Patina"
Mine looks like it's been through a war (for all I know it has....)

I'm curious, on my one the focus ring is quite stiff, if I'm too quick with focussing it can start to uncrew the lens. Is your example the same? (assuming yours is all working how it should, the condition would suggest yes)
