I just bought 5 rolls of Kodak Ektar 100.

Waiting on the seller to get back to me on a pickup date/time.

I gained an enlarger lens today.

For the grand total of $0

It's a Rodenstock 50mm F4

My area has hard rubbish collection where anything too large to go into household rubbish bins can be placed on the nature strip for collection by the council once every so often. I was on my way home from the shops and noticed the distinctive head on an enlarger so stopped to see what else was there.
Unfortunately the enlarger was the only darkroom gear there, and it was missing the globe, globe holder, collumator lens (spelling?) and looked pretty cheap and rubbish in general.
It did have the lens in it still, so I grabbed it thinking it's a waste to have it go to landfill.

just as well I did, when I went back past only 30mins later all that was left was the base all snapped where somebody had just ripped the enlarger head off (probably bored kids kicked it and smashed it)

So, I saved a lens at least.
Not that I need it, I've already got a working enlarger with a lens.

Might find a cheap bellows and do a DIY macro rig.

My latest was a decent flash, finally.

For the past 12 months I've been using an ancient Pentax AF160 I bought in a bulk lot. It does the job, but it's rather weak, and can only work at 1/180 meaning I need to adjust the aperture to get correct exposure.

So the other day I bought a Sigma EF530DG ST
I haven't used it properly yet, but in a 5min test it's so much simpler! AUTOMATIC!

It also seems to work ok with my old lenses (the flash defaults to 25mm zoom ro something, but still seems to expose well enough with my 50mm)

Now I just need to get some practice with it, and also experiment with bouncing etc (my first flash with a movable head)

I'd actually recommend one of the Russian ones if on a budget.

Mine was under $50, including the original leather case, lens cap, film spool.

Conversely..... an equivalent Leica would have set me back a few hundred.

It's in no way better than my Pentax SLRs, but it's interesting to use purely because of the awkward and strange controls (winding with a knob, take the whole back off to load film, not seeing a lens image through the viewfinder)

The other day I picked up a Zorki-4 Rangefinder.

It's a bit rough, but still fully functional.

I must say, I still much prefer an SLR to a rangefinder, but the Zorki is still really fun to use, and it's also a good way for me to learn more about light (no exposure meter, 100% manual)

So far my first roll came out rather well, each shot is mostly well exposed (there's a few that are overexposed by 1/2 to 1 stop)
I'm rather happy with that though since it was my first time going without any meters, just using my own shadow as an exposure guide (well..... and a little tabel I printed of the sunny 16 rule...)

Yep, I figured eventually it will need replacing.

Although at the moment the battery is working quite happily. I expect the computer itself will break before the battery dies.

(A few of the keys on the keyboard are starting to get funny, and the right click button is worn a bit)

Either way, I'm not really concerned since it was free.

Cool.

To my knowledge it's only on the one PC, it appears to be an OEM install of Vista (it had the OEM sticker on the bottom when I got it, but it's since fallen off somewhere and disappeared deep into the magical vaccuum cleaner land of dust and dropped tiny objects)

One day I might upgrade, but to be honest, all the laptop does is hold/edit images, browse the web, and used to play music (not an issue now that my partner and I moved into our own place, I can setup my speakers/stereo that have been sitting on the backseat of my car for 18months!!!

My laptop is registered to a now liquidated company :p

I got it for free from my partner's work, they were throwing it out because according to one of the users, and their IT guy "the HDD has failed".....
Once I plugged it into the charger it worked fine....... the battery was flat, that was all.

I didn't realise there was an issue with who used it though, I always just assumed as long as it's a legitimate copy, and registered to somebody, all was good?
