I find this lens does far better when manually focusing using the proper aperture for desired depth of field.

I looked at the crop factor making the DA15 a 22.5~23mm lens and I'm hoping the 24 is comparable on my film bodies. I don't know that I'd want to go that wide (A15/3.5) on film, especially with how soft that 15 seems to be across the frame.

I fought buying this lens for a long time because it isn't compatible with full frame or film, but I'm glad I caved in. I really enjoy it.

This lens prompted me to find a comparable field of view on film. I'm looking forward to seeing how things turn out with the newly acquired K24/3.5 when I get back from a three week work trip.

It has this ability, to control your mind. One lens, to rule them all.
Got my snow day, just need something more interesting than grey cloud cover. Hopefully it clears off for a sunset this evening with the fresh snow.

Mine arrived on Friday morning, but I haven't had much time with it over the weekend, but the first shot had that classic starburst to it. Hoping the base is closed tomorrow for a snow day and I can venture outside with it for a few hours.

That's what the reviews said in the side by side comparison, just that it was different and may not be as dramatic. I think it's the review on this site where I read about them. I believe the HD versions were preferred for all of the lenses except the 15.
Mine showed up today and holy smokes this thing is tiny. Almost looks silly on the body with a battery grip. I'm again blown away at how good the EX+ condition is from KEH.

That's funny. I didn't hesitate. Ordered it at 11:30 last night. I was putzing on my phone before turing the lights off and saw it. Got out of bed to get the credit card downstairs. Glad I didn't think twice. The price and EX+ were the tipping point. I feel like I won now.

The reviews I've read mention the starbust effect isn't as pronounced or dramatic and requires the lens to be stopped down further. I wasn't interested in paying new prices for either version and there just aren't that many of either version available on the used market.

I thought $465 for an EX+ copy from KEH with caps, pouch, etc was reasonable considering the used prices going here and on eBay at $500+ with no warranty. KEH offers a 6-month warranty, I believe, and the EX+ rated Tamron 17-50/2.8 I bought from them looks unused new. I'm hoping for the same condition on the DA15. I wanted the SMC version rather than the HD for the starburst effect.

I found a reasonably priced copy of the SMC, non-HD version and it should be here Friday.

Every time I check in on this thread, the temptation to buy the this lens is rekindled, even though I can't use it on film and I hate the idea of buying lenses that only work on one of my cameras.
