Yah, that is cold. I think you nailed it. Sharpness looks pretty good.

IMO the last picture posted lost the cold as the overall look is warmer.
Also the last shot seems overall sharpened for some reason and a little too intense as you have moved away from the 'boats disappearing into the fog' look of the two on the right. It could be just the overall color.
You might want to tone back on the sharpness layer opacity a bit on the center focus boat too, just a touch.

To my eye, this looks better.
Played with some paper to block out more/less of the sky on my screen and I think you photo balance is good as cropped.
What this also did is pull you prime wind indicator more to the forefront of the photo and closer to a balance point IMHO.
Others may disagree, but hey, if we all agreed then the worth of the forum would be degraded.
Sharpening could ruin the blowing fog in the image more than you want but you may want to consider a selective sharpening of the main boat.
Duplicate your background layer, sharpen the whole thing to where the boat is where you want it, then mask out the rest of the photo around the boat.
If the boat is too oversharpened and does not look correct you can then change the opacity of this layer to bring it back some.

It does convey the sense of cold and fog, the flag and the water chop give me the wind and I like the fact that you were able to capture the flag and pole against the darker backdrop of the trees as it could have been lost if higher.
I fine the layering depth given by the fog as the boats fade into the background very appealing.
Don't know about the crop, if there is one. Maybe come 1/8 of the way up from the bottom and 1/4 of the way from the top giving some sky and keeping the wave on the bottom right but making this shot more horizontal as the movement is horizontal.
