You want to be very careful what you wish for as it may come true.
I self taught Photoshop as I had the time because my wife went through 3 back surgeries in one year, so I was home a lot with her.
Tried to put my time to best use by learning something fun.
I wish you much better circumstances for your learning.:)

Original to black and white.
Overlay blend mode of pantone solid color of choice.
edges, cracks, haze all are brushes
What else can I tell you that would help?

Would like to put him under the lense more, especially in uniform but don't get to see him very often now.

Done as old photo.
Obvious Photoshopped picture of my son at his wedding.
Done with natural light coming in the window of a library.
I wanted it to look like an old time photo.
C&C appreciated.
