Don't know about that - don't think there is any point - I have always exported as tiff (16bit)

It is done by the raw developer from subframes in the original raw. From what I understand the raw developers don't work in the 8 bit limited world of jpg.

The total removal of the colors from Moire is great isn't it. And a noticeable difference in the grapes and leaves.

I am currently running Ubuntu 17.10 with RT 5.2. About to do an 18.04 build - no doubt that will be a later flavour RT - hopefully that will be a gain.
Hey - I am a total freeloader on opensource - I think it is absolutely incredible what is being achieved with that philosophy. People like you are giving so much to the world. Thank you

Yes I find it interesting in your example that the gain with the screw is obvious but the straight edges near by show no gain what so ever. Maybe the close proximity of edges make the sensor algorithms do far greater errors when interpolating the values in the array.
Question - when you take these images in to the pixel level where you can see the individual pixels - does each visible pixel represent one site in the sensor or the 4 sites of a bayer array ?

Here you go. The green blob at the bottom is a little bug.
Your shot of the screw is a great example of it working. And note that that rear screw is enhanced too. Now both of those cannot be fully in focus so that would suggest a sharp lens is not a prerequisite.

I have been doing exactly the same thinking. As a hiker having handheld pixel shift would be a game changer. Trouble is I have been underwhelmed by my pixel shift results to date. So yesterday I took extra care with a trial shot. 12 sec delay on the camera and did Raw . Image Dahlia. Used a A50mm 1.7 open @ 5.6 and an 8 element 50mm 1.4 open and @ f8 because I wondered how much my tendency to use old glass might be compromising the result. I developed these in Rawtherapee demosaicing with Amaze then Pixel shift to try and see a difference. (Amaze means only the top subframe is used.) As you can see (eight frame test) - very little difference all around. Just a bit noticeable at that digity thing and the tonal gradient there. And a tiny amount more detail on the reds in the petals. So maybe I am doing RTherapee wrong so I installed DCU on my virtual windows (I run Linux) and tried that with the Tak shot at f8 (second test). I still am very underwhelmed and wonder what I am doing wrong. How about some of you posting comparisons of the same shot with PS turned on and off.
