It depends on your tolerance for 'different' and the lack of a viewfinder. The K-01's IQ is better than the K-x - the "sweet sixteen" sensor is a big step up. It can comfortably go to ISO 3200, where I wouldn't let the K-x go past 1600. Video is improved. It will allow AutoISO in Manual mode (TAv mode). The K-01 is a little smaller without the grip or flash overhang - it can fit in a jacket pocket with the 40 XS attached - and the blocky body feels completely different in the hand.

Comparing apples to apples, the AF on the K-01 is much faster than the almost-unusable LiveView focusing on the K-x. Apples-to-oranges, K-x viewfinder AF might be quicker, but the K-01 displays what it is focusing on.
