It was. I had both, and the K-r's focusing just required a lot more attention. I found (and this is just my perception) that AF.A (auto) on the K-r tended to always go into AF.C (continuous) mode, and it was doing a lousy job of predicting where the target would be (because the target wasn't moving). When I hard-set the focusing mode to AF.S (single/stills), I got a lot more keepers. I got the feeling that they tried to optimize the K-r's AF for "action", and blew it.
That said, I don't think the OP is going to have the same sort of problems with any of the choices mentioned. AF has gotten better with every generation.
