I recently asked for opinions on this lens here and ended up picking it up new for a good price ahead of a trip out west to Vancouver Island. I have shown a few images from it.

My take:
- In many ways, it's the brother of another mother from Panasonic (12-60 F3.5-5.6). Same filter size, very similar dimensions.
- If is slightly better built and likely more weather protected (although the lens hood is a bit flimsy)
- Handles well, the zoom is smooth and doesn't (yet) creep
- It's very sharp throughout the range. I have reduced the sharpening to -1 on my E-M1 II. It's a bit better than the Panasonic beyond about 25mm
- Contrast and colour are quite good.
- 90mm Equivalent (paired with the 45-175mm lens) is enough for hiking and urban explorations.
- It allows in-camera focus stacking!
- The pseudo macro is outstanding

I find I don't end up stopping down beyond F5 unless I need the DOF.
In short, it's very useful and I am happy with the purchase. Is it much better than the Panasonic? Yes-ish. Better colour, contrast, handling and sharpness.
I'm going to put the Panasonic back on my GM5, which is a surprisingly good combo.

Reduced, OOC JPGs attached.

Hopefully useful to somebody.

I really like this spot and would love to go back. Love the lighthouse on the hill, too. We rode the bus here in 2009. Waves were making fishing a bit too hazardous the day we were there.

I'm processing more photos from a recent trip. I took the 12-45mm F4 Olympus and 45-175mm Panasonic. I was very happy with both. I was lucky enough to get some good light a few times, and it's hard to miss with the scenery.

Hi, Greg. I print up to 13*19, your comments are good. Lenstip had commented on another review that the change from 12-16 gave a perceptual difference about 4-5 to the score.
I would anticipate the longer end quite a bit better than my 12-60 copy. I am interested in the contrast/ colour differences as I get an occasional "blooming flare" when shooting landscapes that i'd like to avoid. The one other point is native Olympus/ OMD glass and as I also have a Panasonic body, I think that the jpg sharpening is treated quite differently by my E-M1 II. All this to say that the Panasonic is a solid lens, I've just been spoilt with better glass. If I go ahead, I'll let everyone know how it looks.

Folks, has anyone got both the Panasonic Lumix 12-60 (3.5-5.6) and the Olympus 12-45mm F4. I have the former, and a trip coming up and would appreciate an understanding of:
- Colour (Oly is better?)
- Wide end (apparently pretty close)
- Tele-end (Oly is much better but 15 mm shorter).
- Better WR from Oly
- Anything else?

The use case is an upcoming backpack trip. I'll also be carrying the Pana 45-175 and the 15mm F1.7.

Thanks for any input.

One more plus for the EM1ii is in body focus stacking with certain lenses. It is a very capable camera and a trip to the menu is rarely needed. It’s not the most dynamic camera I’ve ever used, but is certainly competent.

Thanks! I am curious about the Raynox on this lens, and the 45-150 (and the Olympus version) are both great options for general work in my experience.

All good considerations. Personally, I have had two of the 12-32 lenses need repair as the unlock thread is not secured well to the underlying parts. It is a good lens - I got one each with my GM1 and GM5, and still use it with my GM5.

I use my GM5 and 12-60 with a mirrorless mover 10 (a 5 would do if this is your only lens). You are right, it won't fit in your pocket. For telephoto I take the 35-100 F4-5.6 and both fit comfortably in the 10. I like those bags as they have an in-built raincoat and zip/magnet closure and a belt loop. You're still changing lenses though and not always time/safe to do so.

The only other lens I am also considering is the 12-45 F4 Olympus, which would be a good fit, but it's pricey and heavy. I've also heard mixed things about the 14-150.

I'd echo this. My copy has very good quality at the wide end and either it or the 45mm F1.8 Olympus tend to live on my E-M1 II camera. It's light and the weather sealing seems quite good.

Thank you! The area is an old volcanic field that has been drowned by the sea. It's a place I had not seen and I was glad to get there.
