I'll echo photoptimist's sentiments and rephrase his initial question. What do you feel limited by the 18-55? Does it not go wide enough or does its telephoto reach fall short? Or do you just want something faster and sharper? I find the 18-55 to be a quite adequate lens. It satisfies about 80 percent of my needs. Another 'low budget' lens I find exceedingly useful is my Sigma 28-80 macro zoom. It's great for closeup work and you can pick those up easily for around $30-$50. If you want a little more telephoto reach, I'd suggest the DA 50-200. It's a lot of lens for a modest price. I picked up a DA L 50-200 WR for $74 a few months ago. It's a fantastic lens despite its plastic mount. If I were going to throw together a two-lens kit, I'd opt for the 18-55 and the 50-200.
