My DAL 50-200 WR didn't come with a lens hood so I've been pricing them and I've got sticker shock. The cheapest OEM Pentax hoods for it start at $30 and go right on up through the roof. I've got a line on a third party exact replacement for $12, which is more realistic but still a bit on the stiff side, IMO, and a generic metal screw-in hood for $4. The oddest thing is none of them are in the U.S. They're all coming from China or Hong Kong, so that means painfully long delivery times. I'd prefer the OEM clone but I may end up going with the generic for a third the price.

I recently decided that since most of my camera bodies now are weather sealed that I should have at least one WR lens so I could actually use one my cameras out in the weather if the need ever arose. My first thought was to get a DA 18-55 WR, but I already have two regular DA 18-35 lenses and had just sold off a DAL 18-35 with my K100D, so that was more redundancy than I could justify. Instead, I found a really nice DAL 50-200 WR. The lens came today and it looks like it's never been used, not a nick on it. I stuck it on my K30 for some quick test shots around the yard and for the most part am favorably impressed. The autofocus hunts a bit, but once it locks on, it's surprisingly sharp. Colors are nice and bright, although a shot of some red azaleas came out a little over-saturated. Based on other eBay prices and the reviews on the Lens Forum, I feel like I did alright with it at $74 with free shipping. I'm not totally enthralled with the plastic mount but hopefully it'll hold up okay. Now, the next question is which of my existing lenses goes out the door to help offset the purchase price?

Below are my favorite of the test shots:

The red azaleas came out a little over-saturated.

The pink azaleas came out gorgeous although the focus is a little soft on the flower in the foreground.

It's not a macro lens per se but this close-up of the bumble bee isn't bad.
