I decided to double check after reading your post. I used both my 40mm and 105mm and shot a light at F/16 and they both have spots in the exact same locations. So I guess my 55 is fine and I just need to clean the sensor of my K01! Thanks to kcobain1992 and tim60

While cleaning the outer elements I held it up to the light and saw that there are large pieces of something or other inside the lens. They start to be visible in images that are shot around F/5, at F/16 they are large and clear spots. These spots are there whether I use the lens on my K01 or K5ii. It's clearly the lens that is the issue.
Of course, I can still use it from F/2 to about F/2.8 without creating a ton of work for myself.
I attached a picture to this post so you can see what I am talking about. A terrible picture that I am showing in public purely to demonstrate the crud in my much beloved lens.

Here's a shot from yesterday with my old 55mm f/2 SuperTak.
Unfortunately it seems to have some rather large chunks of something inside the lens now :-( I spent an hour cleaning up spots in lightroom yesterday. So I will be retiring this guy until I decide whether to have it cleaned or just replace it. |

A few days ago I grabbed two random objects from the kitchen and used them as subjects. This shot is also with the 55mm Super Tak
The biggest challenge on the week days is that it's dark when I leave for work and it's dark when I get home. I've been getting lots of low light and flash / controlled light practice. It's a lot of fun but also more challenging than I expected it to be.

I'm doing a shot a day project this year. Yesterdays shot was with my 55mm f/2 super tak. It's only been three weeks and I am struggling to find things to shoot. My pets are always ready to be subjects, but I really don't want my project to end up being 365, or even 180, shots of dogs! So far 11 of the 21 shots are pet shots. |

Thanks, tim60 :-) I'm thinking about something in the 100-150mm range. I want something I can use by itself and with my 55mm reverse mounted on it. Sadly it'll be a few months until I can afford a second one of these fine old lenses but I am really looking forward to putting my 55mm F2 through it's paces in the mean time.
As an aside, the small preview of the picture I posted looks muddy as hell while the full size version on smugmug looks fine. Anyone know if smugmug does something nasty to preview jpgs? Or, am I on drugs?

I bought a 55mm F/2.0 Takumar to use as a reverse mounted macro but after some testing I wanted to try it normal mount. So I bought the pentax screw mount to K mount converter. It came in the mail yesterday.
I only had time to take a few test pics of my dogs but I'm very happy with this lens! I want more Takumars now! |
