Good points as well pathdoc ...I certainly accept there will be demand for such things. As you hint at, it may not be in Pentax's strategy.
AF performance at such wide apertures is going to be a further challenge though ...

Is a very wide aperture standard prime really going to be much of a priority in this day and age, with a new Full Frame sensor plus Pentax Prime image processing just around the corner ? ....
The old standard F1.7s or F1.4s surely were mainly for light gathering purposes in the film era, when there was no chance to switch instantly to ASA 3200 or higher with little concern.
The extra low depth of field effects will be there inherent in sensor format already ... It won't be necessary to open up to such wide extremes to get the required effects, surely? F2.8 would be enough for most.
I'd have thought the priority would be high end enthusiast level constant F2.8 zooms, even with fairly small ranges .....
