Saw a friend I haven't seen in awhile downtown working in the Francophone Society's booth during Canada Day.

Going to be dropping off a couple rolls (fuji x-tra 400) to be developed and scanned. One was mostly with the 77.

Digitalis, that flower shot with the 77 is damn impressive.

Both are with the 77, second is a Brenzier done up in ICE.

I've never really done portraits, so I threw myself into the deep end (done this so many times it's the only way I can learn now :p) and signed up for an evening class. So here you guys go, my first portrait attempt with the fabled 77.

Here we go, finally getting to playing around with and upload shots from my 77. I'll probably use it for the Single In May challenge.

Very impressive shots LeRolls.
I just acquired a 77 from the marketplace tonight. Seriously looking forward to making use of it.

I haven't seen a tiger lily in a long time. Be it a photo or just in the garden.

LeRolls, I *know* it's a top down perspective, but some reason my eyes hurt. It appears like an entirely flat scene but the mortar and pestle seem to create a small bottomless hole within...

Something I'm noticing is missing from the current discussion is are photos from the 31 that don't make the cut. I'm curious as to what they are actually like. Another thing to ponder about is that within thread there's a number of people who got defective copies, but then sent it into CRIS and it comes back perfect. Aye that's an expense, but keep in mind that you are a person who dropped $1300 on a lens that's meant for the film days, no super AF, stabilization or sealing.

I've only got the A 50 for the week. On Monday I'm going to mail it to Sweden because VisualDarkness is next in line for the Travelling Nifty Fifty. It's like a free rental lens and everyone uses the same one.

Oh yeah, not going new. The 77s here usually go for around 700-750USD which is 770-820CAD and that isn't too much for me. I've got pretty much no expenses other than gas for my car which is quite good in that regard (22 year old Tercel, 180k on it)
The handle Student Boots is from high school and I'm 19. while I am taking some classes, they are really just small workshops (150CAD to 350CAD at the local college) and then I'll be taking one of Eric Kim's workshops in Vancouver this June and I intend on going to London in the fall and taking some more workshops at the London School of Photography.
I've also got two jobs, and one of which is at a hospital (I'm working right now actually) and that is really good money for my age. Not quite to the same apparent degree as Sandy, but it's enough.
I paid for all three of my lenses by myself, and my graduation gift from my parents was a $200 gift card which I put into my k-30. I've only been working since I graduated two years ago.

In all likely hood what'll happen is I get the M from Kerrisdale Cameras and enjoy it while I've got money transferring to my my paypal balance. Once there I'll have a look at the Marketplace for 77s and get one from there. At which point I'll get myself an ND and GND filter because I have neither one and some Portra 160. Then I'll try both M and FA on my brother's camera with said film. If I do enjoy film then the M will probably live on my own film body while the 77 does the same on my K-30.

Nice one Todd

Awesome guys, thanks! So it looks like I'll getting meself both a 77 and a M 50/1.7 and then I'll put a roll through my brother's MX and see how I like the real thing compared to VSCO Lightroom presets.

So my brother has found an M 50/1.7 at a local store for 60 bucks, and they have a (relatively) decent selection of used film bodies.
Couple questions on the 77, how is it for narrow landscapes? I have happily used my 100 for such use cases. As well, what it like when trying to render starbursts, I'm not expecting anything to the degree of the SMC 15 (the HD can die in a grease fire), but still what's it like? I can live with the purple fringing.

Thanks Sandy and Parry for the input. Funny you should mention that, as I have an A 50/1.7 on my camera right now, the Traveling Nifty Fifty nonetheless .

Interesting comment about the 31, because I've been thinking that my dream kit would be a 16-50 and 50-135 for zooms, then the 77, 31 and either the 21 or 15 for primes. No mention of the D FA 100 because that's non-negotiable, you'll have to pry that from my cold dead hands.

As for over looking the 70/2.4, I don't deny that people find it to be lovely, I've just got limited (hehehe) options. Autofocus because I'm terrible at MF (outside of my 100), and I'm very interesting in getting into film so it must be full frame with an aperture ring. I've tried my brother's MX and I can make use of a split screen. The FA 50/1.4 has come across my sights but there's not enough incentive to take it over the glass in this thread.

So...thinking about getting another lens. My currents are the 16-50/2.8, 21/3.2 and 100/2.8 Wr macro, the later possibly being my favourite and most used. I do have a 402.8 XS that has been sitting on my bookshelf untouched since last Autumn. I'd love to have the Trinity, but for the time being I can only afford just one, and also ruling out the 31 for now.
I've tried a nifty fifty, it sometimes seems a little too narrow and wide for me at the same time. If offered for a good price, I'd probably take the DA* 55/1.4 now and wait to get an FA Lmtd later.
What do you all recommend for me? Look for a good deal on a 77, a 43 or the aforementioned 55?

Well now. I've been slowly working my way through this thread for the past couple weeks. Leaning closer and closer to my screen and drooling just slightly more and I flip through the pages. There's nothing I can contribute yet but I aim on getting an FA Lmtd for my Spring/Summer lens purchase.

PS This thread has some interesting history locked away in here. Several births, one divorce and one trans-continental up-rooting due to work.
