Nice pics saladin. Also nice to see Orion the way I grew up seeing it. As a kid growing up in Geelong, I never understood why books referred to orions belt and sword, when it was the wrong way around... :)

I am in Sointula, on Malcolm Island - just off the coast of northern Vancouver Island. We have fairly dark skies, if you get away from the lights of the "big city" of Port McNeill... :)

I can't compete with your technical skills Dr-who, but here's my humble attempt with a 50mm f1.7 lens and the O_GPS1...
Merry Christmas all...

I am guessing that you used a telescope for this shot? Can you provide some more details about how you created this breathtaking image? Fabulous work!

I really like the style you have developed for these star trails! Hope to see more as you experiment more :)

You don't necessarily need to buy software to get some great shots with this lens. For example, Deep Sky Stacker is a wonderful freeware app that can produce great results. A program like PixInsight can take your astrophotography to a new (and more complex) level, but no need to jump right in the deep end and spend a lot of money.
Without stacking you can still generate some very impressive images, with some basic image editing program and relatively long exposures and the O-GPS1 unit. Even without the GPS unit, you could take some fairly long exposures at higher ISO levels and get good results if you have relatively dark skies. |

Yes. I simply took the image layer with the meteor masked away everything but the meteor and added back to the top of the stack.

An image from early this morning. Shot with a K5, O-GPS1, Bower (Samyang) 14mm f2.8 lens, 1 minute exposure. A stack of 11 images, shot as PEF, developed in Lightroom. Distortion corrected with PTLens. Alignment by Autopano Pro and assembled in PS CS4.
i saw many more bright Geminids than I managed to capture. At least it was relatively clear this morning :)

Since I got my K5, the sky has been filled with clouds. This morning was the first time that I had a chance to test out the O-GPS1 unit. The seeing wasn't good, but I am fairly impressed by how well the O-GPS1 unit performs!
Two pics from this morning...
Shot in raw and developed in Lightroom and some curves adjustments in PS CS4. Pentax K5, O-GPS1, 50mm f1.7 @f2.8, ISO 800, 2 minute exposure: Pentax K5, O-GPS1, 18-135mm @ f3.5 &18mm, ISO 800, 2 minute exposure: |
