My first post ever to this thread. I am not a telephoto person, but I like the preset aperture on the Tele-Takumar 200mm F5.6. I can compose at maximum brightness and then smoothly turn to my preset aperture without taking my eye off the viewfinder. Shouldn't all lenses work this way? :-)

Taken with Lumix S5 and converted to monochrome in development.

It has a lot to do with availability bias. Unless a reviewer has access to all the possible options they will tend to believe that what they do have is superior to what they don't have. A commitment made to the lens in hand (e.g. through monetary investment) makes it more likely to be evaluated as a good decision. There is also a affinity bias that occurs when something is already highly regarded: we tend to agree with the previous assessment lest we fall outside social convention.

There's also a simple lack of knowledge, which I don't think affects the reviews here as much as it does, say Google reviews of restaurants. The only thing you can do with those opinions is ignore them entirely, since so few people have any understanding of cuisine, food production, etc.

At least here on Pentax Forums we have knowledgeable photographers!

Bill, that is a superb photo, like so many of your others in this thread. it has a lovely dimensionality to it, without appearing in any way unnatural. If I was in the market for a 20mm lens for landscapes, you have convinced me with those you've posted!

I should also thank Jonathan Mac and paulh for their contributions.

Nice cans. I've got the 250s and they are lovely.

Hangu... all very nice, especially the blossoms and the B&W immediately following.

Nesster: What a fascinating piece of gear, so time-worn and full of history. I simply love the textures of old metal. Do you have some shots with that Zeiss Ikon? I guess they don't fit this thread, but you can point to them elsewhere.

The Shure phono cartridge shot has a wondefrul quality from the bokeh and colour feeling. And speaking of which...

Mike -- "1959 Pentax S2 S-M-C Takumar 35/2": Wow! full-on vintage in an absolute classic shot. Thank you both for sharing these!

Ira: Tape recorder? Or the digital equivalent? In fact most mobiles would do.

NoMaD_PS: Er, wow. I hope you're not trying to do better than that, because that is one fantastic shot.

mikeSF: "this 105mm/2.8 is definitely in the running" for absolutely sure. Great bug, nice bokeh, excellent sharpness.

I don't know if this helps, but I have found ExifMixer to be a useful tool. It lets you create different sets of EXIF tags and apply them to a batch of images by simple drag and drop. It's free but for Windows only.

Of course, one still needs to keep notes to recall which image belongs with which tag.

That is the best of all of them. Even a picture of someone's back can say so much in the right hands.

Wow, that is a picture postcard, though the vignetting is a bit much for my taste. Was that added? Lovely composition and sharpness! Great as black and white.

Another thing: I notice that if one person posts a certain subject, so will someone else! Though sometimes a while later. For example, Mike's boy in the water and Craig's person in water. And then (in a sideways nod) there are boats in the water.

I find it fun to follow the different conceptual threads as the photos get uploaded.

P.S. Still want my Takumar.

LensScribe: Both of those really gets across the character of the subject -- well done!

mamba909: That Cherry Blossom Festival shot is beautiful and benefits from a good angle. What colours!

Mike Cash: That last tugboat shop is most impressive. There's a serious sense of scale coming from how you filled the frame.

mikeSF: I think the blue tint works well there.

I have been on a strict no lens regime for a year. Once I start buying Taks there are at least three I know I want, and some are not that cheap either. Have no fear, I will eventually! But for now I'll stick with my FA Limiteds.

And I'll enjoy the photos here!

What a great cat shot! Love the tones of the film.

Beautiful soft petals. this thread continues to be an inspiration. Can you believe I own no Taks?
