It will depend on the trip mostly, and not unimportantly who is coming along. On a recent mountain trip I carried both the k-1 and the k-5. Fa 31mm ltd and sigma dc 17-50 2.8 Two cameras because one would do a time lapse, other for 'normal' shooting. This was a dedicated long-weekend milky way shoot. (Remark: Do not use the fa 31mm for astro, it's not suitable and I swapped it for the fa 24-70 afterwards). We had to improvise and camp in the wild. My travel partner took the the tent and cooking gear. That was lucky for me. In general I'll at least bring the k-1 with fa 24-70 and the da 10-17 for 360 panoramas.

Hi, fresh k-1 and ff first-timer checking in. After 7 years of k-5 shooting I made the jump as low-light and night / astro became important aspects of the hobby. Mostly vacation (mountain hiking) hobby shooting. Also occasional aviation and rare city / classical concert / other. I don't travel light; especially in the mountains I want to be sure I carry the best quality in my possession. I'm quite sure the day will come I'll rethink that as the irix 15mm blackstone just arrived and it's a hefty and heavy guy.
But for now.. Very happy to have upgraded. Of course the jump in megapxixel is huge compared to the 16 mp k-5. But also the pristine 'noise performance' the sensor delivers is quite an experience.
