Carabez, in post #55, Pufferchung mentions having a broken KS2 which she can practice dismantling and have a source of the hotshoe and screws. I hope she will soon be able to give us some good news regarding the K3ii.

There's a bit of learning to do with a corded flash, you probably have to set X on the function dial, or shutter speeds below 1/180. Lots of test shots indoors are needed to get the hang of it . Googling the name and number should get a pdf of the instructions if you don't have them. The ring flash is less powerful than what you are used to and the auto function is less sophisticated.
When you take the top off of the other camera, there will probably be two screws hidden until the flash is raised which are obviously not on the K3ii. Because the screws are so small, when re assembling, just tightening them between thumb and forefinger should be sufficient.

I don't know what trigger voltage that Centon ringflash has, it is similar in appearance and vintage to my Cobra, I recon it's the same unit, which is under 8V. No doubt you will have tried it out before reading this. The tiny waterproofing cap for the sync socket is easy to loose, be careful and put it away safely.

Can't help you with the exact size, I have a set of instrument screwdrivers which includes two JIS crossheads and just try them out for size before using. This is the sort of set you would best get, top quality. Note, postage in the USA ought to be much less than to Blighty. That broken KS2 may also be a donor for the hotshoe, screws and the spring you lost. The screw length must be the same as the K3ii ones, you can probably get screws the same length on ebay, or shorten the KS2 ones with a little file if needed. Don't forget to find the missing screw and take the battery out of the K3ii before working on it. Good luck. Take your own pictures as you go if possible and reassemble in the reverse order.

I got my Cobra Macroflash out, powered it up and the trigger voltage is under 8V. It has a guide number of 5 metres as iso 100. Auto iso range from 25-400 between 30-95 CM It comes with adaptor rings 49-52 and 55mm.

If you attempt to remove the top, remember there is a screw under the rubber grip on the left of the camera. There is no need to remove the base or sides, and the wiring may just be long enough to leave the wiring connected. As I mentioned, proper JIS crosshead screwdrivers must be used, not Phillips.

I've just found a YouTube video of a strip down of a K3ii which includes the top part. Having looked at it, the top can be removed quite easily using a small JIS screwdriver. If you know anyone who likes taking intricate things to bits and repairing them, it might be worthwhile showing them the video and finding out what they think about doing it for you.

You are lucky to have such a nice husband. That loose screw might cause problems if you are still out of luck with the camera. I have an old Centon ringflash which connects with a sync cord. it fits on lenses up to 55mm filter thread. Here is one for sale on ebay UK, but you could look out for this type on your local ebay: Centon MR20 Macro Ringflash | eBay

I would get in touch with a camera repairer and tell them exactly what the problem is, offering to send some photos. I would be very wary of the condition of the screw threads in the hotshoe, they may not be good enough even if new M1.7 X 2.5 screws are used. With a 2mm tap and some 2mm screws, a solid repair could be made. A smaller business would be cheaper and do just as good a job.

I have just removed the thin spring shim cover from the hotshoe of my K3ii and the same part from my K100D, they look identical. I think they are held on by screws, not riveted. The MZS is the same, not a suitable candidate for a transplant because of it's value. The Z1P, PZ1 is different, the screws are in slightly different positions. A spares/repairs digital body with an undamaged hotshoe would make a suitable donor, with undamaged screws also.
