 Grant,

The FA31ltd was not an LBA thingy... I really needed to test out that lens;)

Well my "photo assistant" is definitely dangerous news.
I have found a solution though:
Snp up a second DA21ltd (the latest Zeiss news might cool that a bit though) and either another DA70 or FA77 and let her use the DS + DA pancakes and keep the rest for me:D
It is not a huge problem, just means I have to spend a little more on gear this year than I had originally planned for.
Either way the 43 and 31 are going to stay:)

I will pass on your kind compliment to her.
To my own defense I have told her that she should consider joining up here...
the rest is up to her:)

Thanks for liking my photos too... It was a wonderful trip indeed.

You were a great help, both you and Mike:)

Yep I knew you would say that:lol:

I will be looking forward to that, I already have the one you took with my K10D.
I even have the one of all four of us, somewhere, truly not a very good picture...

Take care man:)

WEll you managed to pick out another of my favourite shots and one of the shots where the weather seals really did me good:)
Thank you for complimenting it and you are right, NYC is an amazing city.

It was left at home... that is why it did not see much use... it was either the 14 or the 21, I did miss it on a few occations... but I would have missed the 21 even more...

Even though it do not see as much use as the DA21 or FA43 it is on of the lenses that I use a lot. When not travelling I largely work with either two or 3 les kits.

Here is a couple of pairs:
DA14 and FA31 (wide normal duo)
DA21 and FA43 (standard du0)
FA31 and DA70 (normal long duo)
FA31 and FA43 (low light duo)

trios:
DA14, FA31, DA70
DA21, FA43, DA70 ( current standard kit)
DA21, FA31, FA43

Go buy one... it is a very nice prime:)
Here is a gallery full of DA14 pictures: click here

Thank you Randy, I am glad you like it.
I am very happy about that shot too... one of my own favourites fom the trip.

The east coast is amazing, but so is the west... I really am looking forward to get the chance to go there again, but well not sure when... I have a brief trip to Park City in Utah scheduled in late september, but not sure how much actual photowork I will get a chance to do.

Thanks for looking and commenting Randy:)

Thank you Chris...
I have corrected the Link and thanks for pointing that out:)
The DS/DA40 is a very compact combo... and while I prefer the 43 in terms of handling and on the K10D with grip for serious work, I think the DS is great as a backup body... for me the SR was just not important enough and I seem to be able to handhold the DS/DA40 combo down to around 1/10 of a second and get decent results from it even without SR... true with SR on the K10D and the 43 or 31 we are getting cdown to a mere half to a third of a second limit, at least for me.
As we live something like 4000 kilometers apart that is going to be difficult.
But I can tell you that we are talking about 4,5mm in width and 4mm in depth, does not sound as much but it actually feels smaller to me.
Both are to small for a main body for me, but as back up the sze is actually a good thing.

:lol::lol::lol:

That effect is probably more the effect of the 30s shutter speed used in that particular photo, it was takenwith the K10D which in general not very good for IR.
The DS would have required a something like a quart to half a second at the same f stop I think.
That said the K10D does OK for IR especially if you as me like to work with the very slow shutter speeds.

Thank you:) glad you liked m storyline:)
I like my current pentax Lineup, now ad a 70-200 f2.8 and a sigma 105 macro and I would say I have a lineup more capable than me. I would like to replace the 70-200 from sigma with an equivalent SDM variant from pentax, but it is not really on the roadmap. perhaps the new DA* long primes would be something to look for.

Well I am one of the few that thinks that the K10D with grip is the smallest I would want for a main camera... and that is because a lot of the year I work with gloves on and in very cold weather, the K10D works but bigger would not be bad for me. that said I like the very small DS for a backup, does not take up to much room in my bag.
As said above 4.5mm in length and 4mm in depth... does not sound like much, but I actually can feel the difference... or perhaps I just imagine so...

Well It might not be a surprise, but the buy of the DS and the DA40ltd had a very surprising side effect...

Here it is a pictorial of an all new pentaxian... My fiancée:

It seems that the very compact combo was just what she needed to take the plunge and become a pentaxian, but I see it as a bad sign too... she developed a liking for the 3 DA Pancakes... and my DS...

So far she agree to it being a loan and onyl to use the lenses that are not mounted on my camera, but I sense a dangerous development here...:)

Thank you for looking and making it all the way through my long story:)

A truly beautiful experience we spend 3 full days driving and hiking through the park and I will let the pictures speak for themselves as it was one of the most beautiful experiences I have had for some time...

mountains and hills totally dressed in Green... familiar and yet so totall different from where I live.

HIlls dressed in green:

A powerful sky:

A 10 second exposure during a thunderstorm at dusk:

Dark Hollow Falls:

Lewis Falls:

An IR photo converted to Monochrome:

A beautiful butterfly:

Another picture of our Ride, this time with my fiancée next to it:

Finally one of the many paths we hiked:

Now on to the final Part... Part 5 - the surprise...

Well my first real test of the K10D with the R72 filter gave this at least to me rather unusual picture of a very well known scene:

Anotherone of the beautiful monument:

We actually met up with Brendan and Mike twice during the trip, and second meetup was a guided tour of Baltimore... and I think that this picture came out fairly interesting:

Another obligatory visit while in DC is well, the picture really tells the full story:

Now fast move on to part 4 - Shenandoah National Park

We stayed for 3 full days in New york and it was as always when going there a wonderful stay... I love the this city and manhattan in particular.. I used the FA31ltd exclusively, simply to take it through its pases and boy is it versatile:

A street shot walking down 34th street:

A panning shot of a classic yellow cab (took me a few tries to get it right, luckily they have lots of yellow cabs in NYC;D)

A classic view to the Manhattan skyline:

Shooting skating action in Central Park:

Ohh and I adore this old chap:

We had a wonderful stay in NYC, hot weather, blue skies, lots of people in the streets and a K10D with FA31ltd mounted what more to ask for:D

Now on to part 3 and Washington DC

I have previously claimed that my LBA was no longer and that I had all the lenses that I needed...

Well I lied to you... I have secretly urged to experiment with one very special lens...

But more on that later... first the CBA:

A new in box *istDS, now why you might ask... well I handed down my K100D and FA28-105 to my father and to be honest I did not feel comfortable without a backup body.

Why the *istDS and not a K100D again, well to cut a long story short, I decided that I did not need SR in my back up... plus the *istDS is slightly smaller which means something when packing a bag.

Will had a NIB *istDS and well I snapped it up... got Brendan to receive it for me and hand it over as we arrived in Baltimore:

The obligatory first picture is actually of brendan and with the FA43ltd mounted:

Well now back to that special lens I talked about... it is the FA31ltd and yes it is a special lens... I have shot close to 1000 shots with it during the last 10 days putting it through its paces... and it is a remarkable lens that I have grown to like a lot.

The first picture is nothing special and taken at my favourite lunchplace in NYC (the subway right across the street from B&H): but then again... I was the only lens I used during the 3 days in NYC and you will see what I mean by calling it a truly versatile lens...

But here goes the first picture:

Second lens I picked up was another Limited and I really did not plan to, but The DA40ltd paired with the DS is a very, very compack package.

Here is a first photo from the DS/DA40ltd combo pretty decent considering it is handheld and without SR:

You ill also notise when going through the pictures in part 3 and four that I picked up a Hoya R72 IR filter...

and let me say already that the K10 is not really optimal for IR, the DS on the other hand is perfect for it...

here is a picture from the DS/DA40ltd/R72 that I really like a lot:

Finally a picture of my Pentax Lineup I have a few sigmas not included in the picture:

Now on to part 2 and New York:)

I have not shown my ugly face here for quite a while... a 10 days vacation in the US have been on my hands and now I am finally through a good deal of all the pictures and ready to tell a lot more so here goes:

Our original vacation plans were screwed up by my work only two weeks before we were about to leave, which meant no rockies and only ten days to do with... well we did have a darn great vacation anyhow:)

Part 1: LBA, CBA and FBA
Part 2: New York City
Part 3: Washington DC
Part 4: Shenandoah National Park
Part 5: a surprise

The big question is how many of you will actually make it through all of these posts;)

Now here goes...
