Doesn't even need to be a hybrid viewfinder if that tech isn't ready yet. A kind of hybrid camera would be sufficient in the first step. Mirror up makes it essentially a mirrorless camera with all the fancy features minus viewfinder. Some (younger?) photographers don't even use the viewfinder on mirrorless.
The K-1, the Z and also the KP iirc already have face detection in LV. But for my taste focussing and the shutter procedure is a bit slow compared to ovf mode. But I don't know whether the mirrorless cameras are faster in this regard. Maybe a mirrorless sensor would fix this. The WG Series also detects smiles and if someone blinks, so they already have this kind of software in house.
However, as far as I know, mirrorless sensors have a bit of a banding issue due to their focussing pixels. Image quality is one of the core values of Pentax, so this would be interesting how they deal with that.
